Alston boasts a powerful leg and kicks with good hangtime. He had a fantastic junior season, earning honorable mention All-Ivy honors after helping the Big Red allow the fewest punt return yards in the country (45 yards on 1.88 yards per return). He punted 64 times for a 36.8 yard average with a league-best 25 punts inside the 20 - six more than anyone else in the league. Alston was named Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week after pinning Brown inside the 20 on four of his seven kicks, averaging 38.4 yards and allowing just nine yards on four returns to first-team All-Ivy return specialist Buddy Farnham. The first-year starter placed 6-of-8 punts inside the 20 in his first varsity game vs. Bucknell and punted 15 times and allowed zero return yards in a 14-12 win at Yale. Alston allowed zero return yards in five games this season and helped team finish 26th nationally (third in the Ivy League) in net punting at 34.91 yards. Alston spent his freshman and sophomore campaigns on the junior varsity. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Memphis University School
Alston was a first-team all-state selection by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association as a punter his senior year at Memphis University School. He was also an all-state pick by ETPreps.com. An all-league receiver/tight end by the Memphis Commercial Appeal in 2006, Alston hauled in 21 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown in his final season. Alston also punted 42 times, averaging 35.4 yards with 13 kicks placed inside the 20-yard line. He helped the team to a state finals appearance as a junior, catching 11 passes for 138 yards and averaging 36.0 yards on 35 punts with a long of 51 yards and 11 kicks stuck inside the opponents’ 20-yard line in his first season as a starter.
