At Cornell
Schmidt missed the 2010 season due to injury, but is a candidate to play at safety and on Big Red's special teams units in 2011. He saw action in four contests as a sophomore in 2009, making 11 tackles as a safety and on special teams.In his first varsity action, Schmidt made five stops against Colgate and added four vs. Brown. Schmidt will continue to add depth to the safety position and attempt to break into the starting rotation after playing on the junior varsity as a rookie. He will compete for playing time in the defensive backfield and on special teams. Schmidt is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Tamaqua Area
A four-year starter at Tamaqua HS, Schmidt was the Schuylkill County Football Association Defensive MVP as a senior. He served as team captain as a senior and earned first-team all-league honors. The team’s leading tackler, he was named first-team linebacker on the Standard Speaker, Times News and Anthracite league all-star teams in his final campaign. Schmidt also earned the SCFCA Football Scholar-Athlete award. A three-sport star, Schmidt was league Swimmer of the Year and a district medalist and was a four-year starter and a league academic all-star in baseball while serving as team captain.
