Senior Season - 2011-12

Karpenko earned an individual award during her final season in Ithaca when ECAC Hockey named her its Best Defensive Forward. Karpenko notched a hat trick against Brown on Oct. 29, scored two goals each against Quinnipiac on Nov. 19 and Syracuse on Nov. 1, and she has tallied two game-winners this season. Her game-winners came in those same Syracuse and Quinnipiac games. She also tallied four points over the weekend against Mercyhurst on Dec. 2 and 3, scoring two goals and an assist in the first game and adding a goal in the second. She has scored four game-winning goals for Cornell this season.

Junior Season - 2010-11
Karpenko picked up a spot on the Ivy League and the ECAC Hockey first teams, along with being named the most outstanding player in the ECAC Hockey tournament after collecting five goals and an assist in the five playoff games, including potting a pair of goals in the championship game over Dartmouth. She then followed that up with a three-point contest in the NCAA first round against the Big Green, scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist. Karpenko entered the Frozen Four with a six-game point streak, collecting eight goals and three assists over that span. She missed two games during the middle of the season while representing Canada at the MLP Cup. Karpenko finished the season ranked third on the team in scoring, just two points behind the team-leading tally of 50 from Rebecca Johnston and Brianne Jenner. She was one of six different players to average at least a point or better on the season. Karpenko also reached the 100 point mark for her career on March 12 against Dartmouth. Karpenko was lethal on the power play during the season, with 11 of her 23 goals coming with the man advantage.

Sophomore Season - 2009-10
Karpenko earned a spot on the All-Ivy League second team for her play in the 10 games against Ivy foes on the season. She finished the season fourth on the roster in scoring with 31 points on 17 goals and 14 assists, with the 17 goals leading the team in that category. She had nine multi-point games on the season and scored at least one point in 20 of the 35 games played. She took a four-game point-scoring streak into the Frozen Four, scoring seven points over those four games, including having a goal and two assists in the NCAA tournament victory against Harvard. Karpenko had her two best games of the season in mid-January, scoring a goal and an assist in lifting Cornell to a tie at Harvard, then scored two goals and an assist the following night in picking up a win at Dartmouth. Karpenko scored a team-best eight power-play goals on the year and added three game-winners. She was also selected to represent ECAC Hockey in an all-star game against the U.S. Olympic Team in early January.

Freshman Season - 2008-09
Karpenko had an outstanding freshman season, finishing the year with 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists while playing in 28 of the team's 31 games. Her 21 points were good for third on the team in scoring. She had six multi-point games on the year, including a trio of two-goal performances. She scored her first career point on Nov. 1 with an assist against Robert Morris, picked up her first career goal with two tallies on Nov. 21 at Dartmouth. Karpenko also had a pair of goals on Jan. 11 at Colgate and on Feb. 21 against Union.

Before Cornell
Karpenko was the captain for Team Manitoba in 2007-08 and an assistant for the U18 Canadian National Team. She helped Team Manitoba to a silver medal at the Canada Winter Games and a bronze at the Canadian Nationals in 2007. Karpenko joined teammate Rebecca Johnston in helping the U22 Canadian National Team win a three-game exhibition series against the USA. She was named the Saskatchewan Female Midget Hockey League MVP and was selected to the 2008 all-star team. Karpenko played soccer at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame and was selected to the 2007 Saskatchewan 3A soccer all-star team. She also played volleyball and rugby.

Personal
Chelsea Deborah Karpenko is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Karpenko and has an older brother. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
