Biography
Senior Season - 2009-10
McGinty served as a co-captain for the squad that advanced to the national title game, providing a veteran presence on a very young Cornell blue line. She recorded one goal and four assists for five points, recording a career high for points in her final season with the Big Red. McGinty made a game-saving save early in the first overtime of the national championship game, knocking away a loose puck in the crease to keep the contest going. She scored her lone goal of the year in a 3-2 loss to St. Lawrence on Nov. 14. McGinty picked up an assist in the Big Red's win over Harvard in the NCAA tournament to advance to the Frozen Four.
Junior Season - 2008-09
McGinty appeared in 25 games for the Big Red, collecting a pair of points on two assists. She scored her first assist of the year on Jan. 4 against Providence in a 4-3 Cornell loss, then added an assist against Harvard on Feb. 13, a 5-2 Big Red defeat.
Sophomore Season - 2007-08
McGinty played in all 30 of the Big Red's games in her sophomore season, scoring three goals on the year. She scored her first career goal on Nov. 2 at Niagara, a short-handed strike in the Big Red's 4-3 loss to the Purple Eagles. She added a goal in back-to-back games against Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Feb. 8 and 9, to finish the season with three points. She was awarded the Tompkins Girls' Hockey Association Cub Club Mentor Award, chosen by her teammates and presented to someone who made an extra effort during the season to reach out and mentor her Little Sister within the TGHA. McGinty earned a spot on the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team and was the recipient of the Wendell and Francelia Earle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.
Freshman Season - 2006-07
McGinty was named the Big Red’s most improved player after moving from forward to defense. She played in 25 games during her rookie campaign, recording her first collegiate point with an assist on Nov. 25 against Clarkson.
Before Cornell
McGinty served as team captain for the Minnesota Thoroughbreds in 2005 after serving as assistant captain in 2004. During the 2005 campaign, McGinty earned MVP honors for Team Minnesota at Hockey Night in Boston '05.
Personal
Kelly Colleen McGinty is the daughter of Michael and Linda McGinty and has one brother and one sister. McGinty is enrolled in Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
