An aggressive and physically strong post player with a surprisingly soft touch in the lane, Tyler has emerged as one of the top big men in the Ancient Eight. Possessing strong hands and good basketball instincts, Tyler has a knack for getting on the offensive boards and creating havoc with his energy on defense. At 6-7 and 235 pounds, the three-year starter is a key part of Cornell's surge to the top of the Ivy League standings.

As a senior
Tyler played in 25 games with six starts in an injury-filled senior year, but continued to play a large role in the team’s frontcourt. A team tri-captain, he averaged 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds while chipping in 14 blocks, 12 assists and seven steals. Tyler started the team’s first five contests, including a 10-point effort in the victory over Toledo. Tyler scored nine points in a win at South Dakota, had five points and four rebounds vs, Davidson and had six points, four rebounds and two blocks in a grinding win at Princeton. Tyler was credited with eight points, five rebounds and three assists while making 4-of-6 shots in a home win over Yale.

As a junior

Averaging 6.9 points and a career-high 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 31 games this season, including 30 starts. He reached double figures in scoring on eight occasions and had 12 games with at least six boards. He shot 50 percent from the floor and 72 percent from the free-throw line for the year. Tyler matched a career high with 19 points and added seven rebounds in a win over Columbia. He had 11 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks in a win on the road over the Lions. Tyler notched 14 points and career-high four blocks to go along with six rebounds in the win over Boston University. Tyler had 11 points and six rebounds in the win over Penn and 10 points and five rebounds vs. Princeton. He notched eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds vs. South Dakota.

As a sophomore
Tyler took over as a full-time starter in 2007-08, averaging 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists while starting all 27 games in which he played. Tyler shot .538 from the floor and added 16 blocked shots and 11 steals, both career highs. He posted 11 double-figure scoring games and had his first career double-double with a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds at Harvard. He hit on 9-of-11 field goals, including six points in the final 30 seconds and the game-winning layup with 6.8 seconds left to help the Big Red overcome a five-point deficit. He scored 16 points against both Colgate and Penn, while notching 13 points with eight rebounds in an overtime win at Quinnipiac.

As a freshman
Tyler emerged as a force in the post for the Big Red during Ivy League play, closing the season averaging 4.6 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 53 percent in 24 games off the bench. He was also named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Feb. 5 after consecutive 14-point efforts against Dartmouth and Harvard. Tyler had 14 points and seven rebounds, including 7-of-7 shooting from the field, at Harvard. He also finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while shooting 6-of-7 from the floor in the win over Yale. He upped his totals in Ivy League play to 6.6 points and 3.4 rebounds on 61 percent shooting from the floor.

At Mercersburg Academy
Tyler averaged 14.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Mercersburg Academy, reaching double figures 23 times in leading his team to a 25-3 record. He was named to the Public Opinion’s all-area first-team as a senior. A first-team all-Mid-Atlantic Prep League selection, Tyler scored 1,370 points in his high school career. He began his career at Clear Spring HS, averaging better than 22 points per game as a sophomore en route to all-area honors before transferring to Mercersburg.

Personal
Alex Robert Tyler is the son of Greg and Ellen Tyler and is the youngest of seven children. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
