Biography

Senior Season - 2010
Groth returned from injury in 2010 and appeared in 29 of the Big Red's 37 games, recording a .276 batting average, the best single-season mark of his career. He hit five home runs to tie him for the team lead in that category while also scoring 20 runs and driving in 17 runs. He had a .510 slugging percentage, the fourth-highest mark on the team. Groth had eight multi-hit games on the season, including each of the last four games of the season. He had 11 hits in the final six games as he raised his season batting average from .230 to .276 over that span. Groth also had four multi-RBI games during the season. He had four of his five home runs during Ivy League play, hitting one against Yale (April 10) and Brown (April 11) and two in the four-game set against Penn (April 17-18). His 17 career home runs tie him for 17th all-time at Cornell.

2009
Groth suffered an injury during the preseason and was forced to sit out the entire season. He will return in 2010 after applying for and being granted a fifth year by the Ivy League.

Junior Season - 2008
Groth emerged as a power threat during his junior season, hitting five home runs to finish second on the team in that category. He appeared in 36 games, starting 34 times, with 18 of those starts at first base and 13 at right field. He had a pair of four RBI games, going 2-for-5 with a run and four driven in against NJIT on March 21, then drove in four in a 1-for-5 outing on April 12 against Penn. He hit a home run in both of those contests and added a long ball in both games of a doubleheader against Brown on April 5, then smacked his fifth of the season in a 3-for-4 performance on April 20 against Columbia. He finished the season with 22 runs driven in, second only behind Nathan Ford’s 28.

Sophomore Season - 2007
Groth made 30 appearances as a sophomore, starting in 25 games (20 at first base, five in right field). Groth batted .263 with a home run, nine runs scored and 17 driven in on the year. He hit his first collegiate home run of his career on April 28 at Princeton. Against UNC-Greensboro on March 20, he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one driven in. He also posted stellar defense at first base, committing just one error in 195 chances (99.5 percent).

Freshman Season - 2006
Groth appeared in 25 contests as a freshman, earning 11 starts, with nine of them coming in the two corner outfield spots. Groth batted .196 on the season, collecting nine hits in 46 at-bats. He had a pair of doubles, a triple, scored three times and drove in three runs on the year. He doubled in his first collegiate at-bat in the second inning against LaSalle on March 11.
 
At Pope John Paul II
A three-year all-county and all-area selection, Groth carried a four-year varsity batting average of .410 at Pope John Paul II HS. For the last three years, he has ranked in the top 10 in a variety of offensive categories in the Palm Beach County area. Groth was also a starting outfielder for the 17U South Florida Elite Pro Prospect Team.

Personal
Kyle David Groth is the son of Stephen and Theresa Groth, and he has a younger brother. He is enrolled in Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration.
