Biography

As a senior
Yanzick was the team’s everyday shortstop and primary No. 2 hitter, stroking six hits in the three-game Ivy League Championship Series against Dartmouth. He went 5 for 5 with three RBI in Game 1, tying a program record for hits in a game. He also had a pair of four-hit games in March during a 19-game hitting streak that dated back to the latter stages of the 2011 campaign. ... Yanzick was given All-Ivy League Honorable Mention as a junior, leading the team with a .329 batting average. ... His 159 assists and 194 at-bats this season are program records. ... Yanzick made two outstanding diving defensive plays with the bases loaded to prevent runs from scoring in the Big Red's NCAA Chapel Hill Regional game against North Carolina on June 1.

As a junior
Yanzick earned a spot on the All-Ivy Honorable Mention list with a career year in 2011, finishing with a team-best .328 batting average. He scored 19 runs and drove in another 11 while also stealing three bases. Yanzick appeared in all but one game at shortstop and recorded 13 multi-hit contests. He went 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI against Penn, part of a season-ending tear that saw him hit .500 (13-of-26) in the team's final seven games. He upped his season batting average to .378 in Ivy League contests.

As a sophomore
Yanzick claimed the starting shortstop slot as a sophomore, batting .212 for the season in 31 games, starting 29 of those. He scored 15 runs and drove in another 15 while slamming a pair of home runs. For the season, he had four multi-hit games and two two-run con tests, driving in multiple runs four times. Yanzick hit his first home run of the season against Northwestern on March 21, going 1-for-2 with two RBI in the game. He later went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in against Army on March 27. Yanzick went 2-for-5 against LeMoyne on March 31, then was a combined 5-for-9 against Harvard in both ends of a doubleheader on April 4, scoring three times and driving in four. Yanzick hit his second home run of the year on April 30 against Princeton, going 1-for-3 with a run and three RBI in the contest.

As a freshman
Yanzick appeared in seven games as a freshman, making his first career start on April 21 against Siena. He went 2-for-7 at the plate in limited action, collecting his first career hit on April 5 at Dartmouth, scoring once and driving in a run in that game. He then added his second base hit on April 21 at Siena, going 1-for-2 with a run scored. Yanzick finished the season with a .286 batting average and three runs scored with a pair of walks. 

Prior to Cornell
Yanzick was a two-time all-league honoree in 2007 and 2008, also earning his team's best defensive player award both seasons. He was also a team captain in 2008 and was named the team's most inspirational player that season. Yanzick earned three letters in baseball, playing primarily shortstop. He was also selected to the Baseball Northwest World Wood Bat Team that competed in Jupiter, Fla.

Personal
Marshal Loel Yanzick is the son of James and Leslie Yanzick, and he has a younger brother and sister. His father played football at Southern Oregon, while his grandfather, Johnny Frederick, played baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.
