Biography

2010 - Senior Season
Michael appeared in five games as a senior, providing leadership to a young team. He went 1-for-5 on the year with a pair of RBI, also drawing a pair of walks. Michael got one start on the year, being penciled into the starting lineup on Senior Day on April 30 against Princeton, starting at designated hitter. Michael also made his career pitching debut on April 3 against Dartmouth, working a scoreless inning and striking out a pair to finish with a 0.00 earned-run average.

2008 & 2009
Michael took time off from school while on a two-year mission.

Junior Season - 2007
Michael appeared in 21 games for the Big Red, making the start 13 times at first base. He hit .200 on the year with a home run, four runs scored and two driven in. He went 2-for-4 with a double on March 17 against Lehigh, and closed out the year with a 2-for-5 showing on April 29 against Princeton. He was also successful in his only stolen base attempt of the year on March 4 at Bucknell.

Sophomore Season - 2006

Michael played in 17 games in his first year at Cornell after transfering from DeAnza College. He started eight games at first base and one at designated hitter, backing up Michael Weiss. He hit his first collegiate home run on April 15 against Penn, a solo shot in the second game of the doubleheader. He had three two-hit games, two coming in the season-opening weekend at Bucknell, 4-for-11 with a run scored and one driven in.

Before Cornell
Michael is a transfer from De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif., where he red-shirted as a freshman. During his time at Leigh HS in San Jose, Calif., he was a three-time all-league selection at first base. Michael’s three-year career numbers at Leigh include a .422 batting average, 111 hits, 88 RBI, 78 runs and 38 stolen bases. During his junior campaign in which he hit .440, Ryan set a league record for RBI with 37. He was named his team’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004 and was his team’s MVP in 2004.

Personal
Ryan William Michael is the son of William and Cynthia Michael, and he has two younger sisters. He is enrolled in Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
