Alessa Cekauskas Career Stats
At Cornell
Junior (2009): Cekauskas was named the team’s Most Improved Player after a season in which she saw action in 23 matches, playing in 71 sets. She finished the season ranked second on the team in kills per set (2.15) and was one of the best hitters with a kill percentage of .149. Cekauskas led the team in kills on four occasions and posted double-digit kills four times, including as season-high 14 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 11. She finished the year with 153 kills, 81 digs, 15 blocks and three service aces.
Sophomore (2008): Cekauskas appeared in 15 matches for the Big Red as an outside hitter, totaling 56 kills and averaging 1.65 kills per set. She recorded a hitting percentage of over .500 three different times, and had two matches with multiple service aces, including a three ace performance against Princeton on October 11. Cekauskas had her two best matches in the last weekend of the season, recording 11 kills against Dartmouth on November 14, followed by a 15 kill performance against Harvard the next day. On the season, she also recorded 31 digs, 11 blocks, and five assists.
Freshman (2007): Cekauskas played in 81 games for Cornell during her rookie season. With 181 kills, she averaged 2.23 kills per game. Cekauskas notched a season-high five blocks, while recording 16 kills against Brown on Nov. 2. She posted a season-high 18 kills vs. Harvard on Oct. 12. Cekauskas tallied 10 or more kills in 10 matches last season, and totaled 22 blocks.
Prior to Cornell
A four-year letter winner, Cekauskas captained her high school volleyball team and was selected the MVP her senior year. She received the Athletic Director's Sportsmanship award while being named all-state and receiving all-academic recognition. The three-time all-conference and all-region first team member competed in the Junior Olympics in Atlanta in 2006. Cekauskas also earned letters in basketball and lacrosse. A student government delegate, Cekauskas is a Presidential Scholar and received the Michigan High School Athletic Association Award as a scholar athlete. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was a representative on the Birmingham City Board for two years. Cekauskas was a four-year member of her forensics team and placed second in broadcasting at the state tournament. She also participated in Detroit Summer in the City where she volunteered to rehabilitate housing in the inner-city neighborhoods.
Personal
Alessa Camille Cekauskas is the daughter of Lise Newman and Ray Cekauskas and has two younger sisters. She is a student in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
