At Cornell
Senior (2011): Tatum has been named a team tri-captain for the 2011 season.
Junior (2010): Tatum served as team co-captain as a junior, a year in which she made the move from outside to right-side hitter. A motivational force and optimistic presence in the gym, she provided solid leadership to an exceptionally young Big Red squad. Tatum saw action in eight matches, playing in 12 sets, and finished with 0.67 kills per game and a .143 hitting percentage.
Sophomore (2009): Despite being slowed by an injury, Tatum saw action in 16 matches, playing in 29 sets as a sophomore. She finished the year with 41 kills, 26 digs and nine blocks. Tatum had her best outing of the season at Princeton on Oct. 24, as she registered 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks.
Freshman (2008): As an outside hitter for the Big Red, Tatum had an extremely effective freshman season, finishing second on the team in kills per set (2.60), sixth in total kills (130) and sixth in hitting percentage. Tatum recorded five matches with double-digit kills, and against Harvard on October 17, set a career high with 18 kills and added four blocks. Tatum flashed her all-around potential against Penn, when she hit .432, collected 17 kills, recorded three aces, had seven digs and added two blocks. For the season, Tatum recorded 48 digs, 16 blocks, nine assists and eight aces.
Prior to Cornell
A four-time letter winner, Tatum helped her team to four conference championships. She led Person HS to three East Regional Championships, while finishing as state champions in 2006 and 2007 and runners-up in 2005. In 2007, Tatum was named the MVP at the state championships, was the recipient of all-region honors, and was a two-time all-conference player. In 2006 and 2007, she was named to the Great 8 all-tournament team, and also placed fifth at AAU beach nationals. A National Honor Society member, Tatum served as secretary her senior year and received scholastic All-America honors. She is a four-time North Carolina Scholar, and was named her high school’s most outstanding player in volleyball. Tatum was also named Person County’s Media Athlete of the Year.
Personal
Meagan Catherine Tatum is the daughter of Jim and Micholene Schumacher and has three younger sisters. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
