At Cornell
Sophomore (2011): Forte saw action in 25 matches, making 19 starts during her sophomore season. She finished the year ranked third on the team with 2.23 kills per set and posted a .137 hitting percentage. Forte also racked up 0.98 digs and 0.37 blocks per set. She registered double-digit kills in 10 matches, including a career-high 18 kills in a 3-2 victory over Harvard on Nov. 5.
Freshman (2010): Forte proved to be the most productive Big Red rookie during the 2010 campaign, seeing action in 23 matches and playing in 75 sets overall. She finished the year ranked third on the team in kills per set (2.17) and fourth overall in hitting percentage (.209). She reached double-digit kills on six occasions, including a career-high 16 kills in three matches. She also finished with 35 blocks (0.47 per game).
Prior to Cornell
Forte was a three-year letter winner at L.D. Bell High School, earning all-district honors three times. She helped her team to a district championship as a freshman and served as team captain as a senior. Forte was named to the 2008 Arlington ISD Tournament all-tournament team. She also lettered four times in track and field, taking first at the 2009 5-5A district championships in discus, and twice in basketball. Forte was a three-time academic all-district selection in volleyball, basketball and track and earned Academic All-State honors as a senior in both volleyball and track. As a member of Texas Advantage Volleyball, Forte helped her team to a first-place finish in the 2009 Lonestar Classic. She also made two junior Olympic appearances.
Personal
Janel Elaine Forte is the daughter of Susan Ray and she has one older brother. She is enrolled in the college of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
