Biography
Career Statistics
At Cornell:
Junior (2011): Restaino saw an increase in playing time during his junior season, playing in nine games as part of the Big Red’s defensive midfield. He saw more time as the season progressed, with seven of the eight games he played in coming in the final two months of the season.
Sophomore (2010): Restaino saw action in one game during his sophomore season, playing against Binghamton.
Freshman (2009): Restaino played in the first game of the season vs. Binghamton before succumbing to a season-ending injury.
At Lawrenceville
Restaino lettered three times at the Lawrenceville School, helping his team to four MAPL championships and four N.J. Prep H state championships. He earned first-team All-Region, second-team All-Prep and second-team All-MAPL honors. Restaino helped the 2007 Long Island Empire State Team earn a gold medal. He played for Bermuda at the 2008 ILF U-19 World Championships and earned honorable mention all-tournament honors after posting 15 goals and two assists in seven games. Restaino also earned three varsity letters in football and lettered in hockey once.
Personal
Matthew Pender Restaino is the son of Paul and Karen Restaino. His cousins, Greg and Carolyn Papa, are both All-American lacrosse players at Georgetown and Virginia, respectively, while his uncle Andrew Sculley graduated from Cornell in 1970. Restaino is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
