Biography
Senior Season - 2010-11
Overguard served as captain for the Big Red, providing leadership as the team tried to claim its first national title. She has appeared in 32 of the team’s games, missing the first two to injury and the Jan. 8 contest at Brown. Overguard’s contributions to the team go far beyond the scoresheet, however, as she has excelled as a true two-way player. For the year, she had six points on four goals and two assists, including collecting a goal in back-to-back games on Nov. 20 against Quinnipiac and Nov. 26 against Niagara.
Junior Season - 2009-10
Finally healthy for a full season, Overguard appeared in 35 of the 36 games on the year, and scored three goals and six assists for nine points. Overguard picked up her first point of the year on Oct. 30 with an assist in the win against Dartmouth, then added her second a week later against Union. She scored a critical goal in the ECAC Hockey semifinal victory against Clarkson on March 5, and added an assist in the national semifinal victory against Mercyhurst on March 19.
Sophomore Season - 2008-09
Overguard appeared in 19 games for the Big Red, missing the second half of the season due to injury. She tallied four points on two goals and two assists, with both assists coming in the Big Red's 4-1 win against Providence on Jan. 5. She scored her first goal of the season in a 5-3 win over Niagara on Nov. 30, then scored in a 3-2 win over Rensselaer on Jan. 17, a game that would turn out to be her final one of the season.
Freshman Season - 2007-08
Overguard played in 17 games for the Big Red before being sidelined due to illness. She notched three goals and four assists for seven points, with all three goals coming on the power play. Overguard registered two assists in the Big Red’s 4-2 win over Vermont on Oct. 21, and she scored her first collegiate goal in a 2-2 tie with Brown on Nov. 10. She scored goals in each of her next two games, helping the Big Red to pick up road wins at Princeton and Quinnipiac. Overguard was awarded the team’s Unsung Hero award for her dedication to the team throughout the season, especially after being sidelined.
Before Cornell
Overguard was a member of Team Alberta and played at the Canada Winter Games. She was an alternate captain for the Warner Warriors in 2006. At Warner HS, she also played badminton, baseball, volleyball and ran track.
Personal
Amber Overguard is the daughter of Dennis and Joanne Overguard. She has an older brother and sister, and her twin sister, Karlee, also plays ice hockey for Cornell.
