Biography
Junior Season — 2012-13
McElwain did not compete in any matches.
Sophomore Season — 2011-12
McElwain appeared in one dual singles match, falling in three sets to Fordham's Max Peara on Feb. 12. He also split a pair of non-league No. 3 doubles matches alongside Quoc-Daniel Nguyen, then dropped a 9-8 decision with Venkat Iyer at the same spot in an Ivy League match against Columbia on March 31. McElwain had a strong fall season, going 8-2 in singles play with a second-place finish in the D Bracket of the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational. He was 7-3 in fall doubles play, including a perfect 3-0 with Nguyen as the pair rolled to the White Bracket title at the Dartmouth Invitational in late October.
Freshman Season — 2010-11
McElwain had a solid rookie season, seeing significant action at predominately the No. 6 spot for the Big Red. He opened the spring season with 10 consecutive victories en route to a 10-2 record in dual matches. McElwain finished the year with a 12-4 record overall, including a mark of 1-2 in the Ivy League. In doubles action, paired with Mirza Klis at the No. 3 spot, McElwain was an impressive 24-8 overall and 19-7 in the spring, including a dominating 6-1 in Ivy League action.
At Booker T. Washington HS
McElwain lettered four times, playing No. 1 singles at Booker T. Washington high school. He was a four-time team captain and a four-time all-metro team selection. McElwain was also named all-state as a senior. He was the 5A state runner-up at No. 1 singles as a sophomore, junior and senior, and helped his team to a 5A state-runner finish in 2008.
Personal
Evan Matthew McElwain is the son of Dr. David McElwain and Dr. Connie Lane and he has one older brother. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
