Career Stats
As a senior
Halayko ended her Cornell career with excellent work on the defensive end. She recorded a season-high four ground balls twice in the year, once at Binghamton and once in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal against Dartmouth. Halayko ended the year tied for fifth on the team with 19 ground balls and in fifth with 11 caused turnovers. She also picked up an assist at Binghamton, feeding a long outlet pass to a wide open Caroline Salisbury for a breakaway goal.
As a junior
Halayko played in 14 contests with her first two career starts, posting a pair of assists and producing eight ground balls, six caused turnovers and three draw controls. She tallied her first career point with an assist against Harvard. Halayko had a productive contest against nationally ranked North Caorlina with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. She also had two ground balls, a caused turnover and an assist in the win over Yale.
As a sophomore
Halayko saw action in the win over Yale, helping Cornell clinch its first-ever spot in the Ivy League tournament.
As a freshman
Halayko saw action in one contest as a reserve in 2009, causing a turnover and scooping up a ground ball during an 11-5 victory over LeMoyne.
At Niskayuna HS
Halayko earned U.S. Lacrosse All-America honors as a senior at Niskayuna HS. The two-year starter and three-year letter winner was a Scholastic All-American in 2007 and 2008. Halayko was the Albany Times Union Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 as she helped her team to its second consecutive sectional championship. That team also advanced to the state semifinals as Halayko took home a spot on the state all-tournament team and the Brine Stick Award as the team’s Unsung Hero. She served as team captain on the Adirondack team at the Empire State Games. Halayko was a three-sport star who also competed in basketball and volleyball. She was a three-year starter on the hardwood, earned team MVP honors each season. The two-year captain was an all-conference pick in her senior year and captured the league’s Exceptional Senior Award after averaging 12.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Off the competition field, Halayko earned the Sports Foundation of the Capital Region Scholar-Athlete Award for 2008 as the top female scholar-athlete in the section.
Personal
Elizabeth Anna Halayko is the daughter of Wayne and Cathy Halayko and has an older brother. Her brother, Dan, played lacrosse at Maryland. Her aunt, Mary Morrill, played volleyball at Cornell, while her mom is a 1980 Cornell graduate. Her grandmother, grandfather and uncle also graduated from Cornell. She is enrolled in the College Human Ecology.
