As a senior
Steinberg concluded a terrific Cornell career with another unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection. She shared the team lead for goals (44) with Caroline Salisbury, and her 21 assists put her first in the team in that category. Scoring on nearly 47 percent of her shots, Steinberg also picked up five draw controls and six ground balls. She was named the Ivy League's Offensive Player of the Week once during the season, and by season's end, she had secured a place in the school's top 10 in multiple categories. Steinberg leaves Ithaca with the fourth-most points (177), third-most goals (136) and eighth-most assists (41) in school history. Steinberg's 2012 season total of 65 points was also the third-best single season ever at Cornell. Steinberg scored five goals in a game three teams during the season and added four-goal games on four other occasions. She scored goals in all but three games and had points in all but one.
As a junior
Steinberg was a repeat member of the All-Ivy first team and IWLCA Northeast Region second-team in 2011. The tri-captain led the team in goals (38), points (42), game-winning goals (3) and was second in draw controls (23). She ranked second in the Ivy League in goals per game (2.71) and fifth in points per game (3.00). She scored a team-high 21 points in Ancient Eight play and posted multiple goals in 11 of the team's 14 games, including a four-goal, two-assist effort against Loyola. Steinberg closed the season with 116 points, becoming the 17th player in school history to surpass 100 career points. Steinberg was named Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring the goal in double overtime to help the Big Red upset nationally ranked Notre Dame. Steinberg posted six points (four goals, two assists) against Loyola and had eight games with at least three goals. She had four goals and five draw controls in the win over Colgate and was credited with three game-winning scores (Notre Dame, Yale, Florida), including in both of the Cornell wins over nationally ranked opponents.
As a sophomore
A unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection and a two-time Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, Steinberg led Cornell is goals (40), points (46) and draw controls (33) en route to second-team IWLCA All-Region honors. She averaged four goals and three draw controls per game in Ivy play, and her 28 goals in seven league contests was more than three times any other player on the team. She scored at least three goals in each league game with six against both Columbia and Yale. In all, Steinberg had at least three goals in eight contests. She tied a school record with eight draw controls in a single game to go along with her five scores in a loss to nationally ranked Hofstra. She also had two goals, two assists, three ground balls and three draws against No. 3 North Carolina. Steinberg added 14 ground balls and seven caused turnovers on the year.
As a freshman
Steinberg had an outstanding rookie season interrupted with injuries, but ranked second on the team with 28 points despite missing four games. Steinberg started 10 of the 12 games in which she played in, posting 16 goals and a team-high 12 assists. She added 10 ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers during the season. Steinberg had a career-best five-point day in the win at Hofstra, posting three goals (including the game winner) and two assists to top seven multi-point efforts. Steinberg netted three goals against both Dartmouth and Brown, adding an assist in the win over the Bears. She also had two goals and an assist against both Rutgers and Loyola (Md.) and was credited with two goals, two assists and two ground balls against Colgate. Steinberg put nearly 80 percent of her shots on goal on the year.
At Suffern HS
A two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American and Journal News Player of the Year as a senior at Suffern HS, Steinberg was a two-time captain and four-year starter. Steinberg netted 106 goals in her final season and ended her five-year varsity career with 294 points (226 goals, 68 assists). She was a four-time all-section and all-county pick and also earned first-team all-league honors in each of her final three seasons. Steinberg was a 2008 U.S. Lacrosse Scholastic All-American and received her school’s outstanding female athlete scholarship award after leading her team to a league title as a senior. Steinberg was a four-year member of the Hudson Valley team in the Empire States Game. A five-year starter and four-year all-section pick on the tennis team, she made it to the state tournament in doubles as a senior.
Personal
Jessi Ariel Steinberg is the daughter of Rick and Mindi Steinberg and has an older brother and sister, as well as a twin sister. Her older sister, Lindsay ‘05, was a three-year letter winner for the Big Red and scored 59 goals and 18 assists in 48 career games. Her twin sister, Ali, will play lacrosse at Rutgers this season and her brother, Jordan, played one year of tennis at Binghamton. She is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
