Biography

Senior Season — 2014
One of the team's co-captains, D’Alessandro was consistently plugged into the two- or three-hole in the lineup as the starting shortstop. His .264 batting average was second highest on the team among qualifying batters. He was also very effective in getting onbase in other ways, too. D'Alessandro led the team with a .383 on-base percentage, which included a team-high six hit-by-pitches and 20 walks against just 25 strikeouts. That high on-base percentage helped him to be in position to steal a team-high 17 bases, which is tied for ninth in program history for a single season. Six of those stolen bases came in one game — a program record — on March 9 at George Washington. He was subsequently named the Ivy League Player of the Week. D'Alessandro reached base in 35 of his 37 games. He finished his collegiate career ranked tied for 13th in program history with 32 stolen bases.

Junior Season — 2013
D’Alessandro made the adjustment to starting shortstop, where he was one of just three players to appear in all 40 games and ultimately earned All-Ivy League Honorable Mention. He batted .252 anywhere from second to sixth in the order and was tied for the team lead in walks (23), second on the team in hits (33) and on base percentage (.377), and third in stolen bases (11) and RBIs (15). He also hit one home run on March 16 at Appalachian State — a game in which he was 3-for-4 with two RBis and two walks.

Sophomore Season — 2012
D’Alessandro developed into the starting left fielder of choice for the second half of the Ivy League season despite an injury that kept him out of the lineup for the four-game set against Princeton to close out the regular season. He reached base in 18 of his last 22 starts. ... D'Alessandro's breakthrough game came April 7 at Brown, when his three-run home run started a Big Red rally that forced extra innings. He then led off the 11th with a bunt single and eventually scored the winning run. ... D'Alessandro ranked tied for third on the team with three home runs, though he’s second the team in at-bats per home run (25.7). D'Alessandro went 5-for-10 with a run scored and two RBI in the Big Red's two NCAA Chapel Hill Regional games.

Freshman Season — 2011
As a freshman in 2011, D'Alessandro batted .236 with a pair of doubles and two home runs while starting in 26 of the 29 games in which he appeared. He ranked fourth on the team with 17 runs scored and drove in nine. D'Alessandro was 5-for-6 with a home run, five RBI and four runs scored in the team's second game at Harvard, his third on five multi-hit games on the season. He primarily played second base (11 starts) and leftfield (11 starts), but also saw time at shortstop and in rightfield.

Prior to Cornell
D'Alessandro was a three-time all-league selection and earned all-county honors as a senior at Half Hollow Hills East. He served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons and was selected as the team's most valuable player as a senior. D'Alessandro helped his team to a league championship in 2007 and was selected to the league's all-star team after his sophomore and senior campaigns.

Personal
Thomas Benedict D'Alessandro is the son of Ben and Dawn D'Alessandro and has two younger brothers. He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
