Biography

Senior Season — 2013
Hawley made nine appearances out of the bullpen, going 0-1 with a 9.72 earned run average. He earned one save, closing out the Big Red's 10-9 victory on March 19 at Davidson. Hawley finished his career ranking tied for sixth all-time in most games finished (19) and tied for 12th in appearances (41). His career record was 2-4 with a 4.76 ERA and three saves.

Junior Season — 2012
Hawley was the Big Red’s primary stopper and set-up man. He ended the season having surrendered no runs in his last eight appearances, spanning nine innings and including outings in both of the team's NCAA Chapel Hill Regional games in June. Hawley’s 1.88 ERA ranks second on the team among pitchers with at least five appearances. ... Hawley’s lone save of the season came when he struck out the side to close out Albany on March 27. ... No Big Red pitcher has inherited more runners than Hawley, and fewer than half of them have come around to score.

Sophomore Season — 2011
Hawley led the team in relief appearances on the mound in 2011, posting a 6.27 ERA with 15 strikeouts and just four walks in 18.2 innings of work. He was 0-2 with a save in his first season with the baseball team after spending his first two seasons playing football for the Big Red. Hawley allowed just two hits in 2.0 innings against Yale in his first Ivy League contest and struck out a career-high four in 3.0 innings of work at Dartmouth. Hawley picked up his first career save with a hitless inning of work against Penn.

Freshman Season — 2010
Hawley did not play baseball as a freshman, instead playing quarterback for the football team during the fall seasons of 2009 and 2010.

At Apex HS
Hawley was a two-time all-conference and all-county selection as a pitcher and first baseman while helping his team to three straight state tournaments. He also played one year of varsity basketball. His football career included three years as a starter in which he passed for more than 5,000 yards and led his team to the 4AA state playoffs each year.

Personal
Houston Ross Hawley is the son of Ken and Sue Hawley and has a younger brother. He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
