Biography

As a senior
Marks emerged as a key weekend starter after spending his first two seasons with the Big Red primarily as a reliever. His 3.48 ERA was second-best among starters, and he has pitched in two of the team’s program-record six shutouts. ... Marks had a team-high five quality starts, including four in Ivy League play. He surrendered just 10 extra-base hits, including eight doubles, one triple and one home run. ... Marks worked a season-high 7.1 innings while earning the victory over Dartmouth on April 2. He earned All-Ivy League Honorable Mention accolades and was also the Big Red's starter in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional opener against North Carolina.

As a junior
Marks was 0-3 with a save and an 8.38 ERA in 19.1 innings of work. He struck out 24 in 12 appearances out of the bullpen, matching a team-high for relief appearances. Marks picked up a save with a perfect ninth inning at Appalachian State, striking out two. He punched out five in 2.0 innings of work, surrendering just a single in a win over Brown.

As a sophomore
Marks made 13 appearances on the mound for the Big Red, earning one start and pitching 24.1 innings. He went 0-1 with a 7.03 earned-run average, striking out 22 while walking 11. Marks' longest outing was 3.2 innings of shutout relief on May 2 at Princeton, fanning a season-high six Tiger batters. He then pitched 2.1 innings of two-hit relief against Ithaca on May 6, striking out three. He took the hard-luck loss on April 6 against Binghamton, allowing one unearned run in one inning of work.

Prior to Cornell
Marks  transferred from Corning Community College, where he played both baseball and basketball. Prior to attending CCC, he attended Deerfield Academy, where he earned a letter in both baseball and basketball. He attended Horseheads HS, where he was named all-conference and team most valuable player as a senior in 2007. Marks served as team captain for both the baseball and basketball teams as a senior.

Personal
Richard Joseph Marks is the son of Jim and Martha Marks and has a younger brother. His grandfather played three seasons of football for the Big Red, while his father played two years of baseball at St. John Fisher. Additionally, his cousin, Mike Danaher, is a freshman on the Binghamton baseball team in 2010. He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
