Biography

Senior Season — 2014
One of the team's co-captains, Swinford was once again the team's primary third baseman with 33 appearances. He hit .204 from the bottom third of the order and smacked his fourth career home run March 15 at James Madison. The homer came in the first game of a doubleheader against the Dukes, with Swinford driving in two runs in each contest. He had a 3-for-3 outing with an RBI March 2 at Navy, then later put together a six-game hitting streak through the early portion of April.

Junior Season — 2013
Swinford returned as the everyday third baseman before an injury truncated his season. He made 28 starts and came off the bench in two more games, finishing fifth on the team with a .261 average. Despite missing 10 games, Swinford still ranked second on the team in runs (18) and fourth in stolen bases (seven). He hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Albany on March 26. That kicked off a seven-game hitting streak, which was the second-longest for the Big Red in 2013. The team was 18-9 when Swinford started at third and 5-8 without him.

Sophomore Season — 2012
Swinford kept the Big Red’s historic season alive with a two-out solo home run to left field in the 12th inning of a 4-3 win on April 29 at Princeton — a victory that clinched the Ivy League's Lou Gehrig Division title. ... His first career home run came March 10 at George Washington. Swinford started the last 14 games at third base for the Big Red, having committed just one error over that stretch and earning All-Ivy League Honorable Mention. ... He Had 14 hits over the last 15 games, including a 3-for-5, three-RBI effort on April 20 at Penn. Swinford had 10 hits over a six-game hitting streak in early April.

Freshman Season — 2011
Swinford had a solid freshman season, batting .248 with seven doubles, a triple, 13 RBI and 14 runs scored while starting all 40 contests. He started 28 hames at third base and 12 more in leftfield. Swinford posted seven milti-hit games, including three straight early in the season. He singled in his first collegiate game and had a career-high three hits against Temple. Swinford was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks and three runs scored at James Madison.

Prior to Cornell
Swinford was voted as team captain as a junior and senior and won the team's best hitter award both seasons. He was second-team all-league as a sophomore and junior before garnering first-team honors as a senior. He also capped off his senior season with second-team all-state honors. Swinford also played football, serving as the team's starting quarterback as a junior and senior and earning second-team all-league honors as a senior.

Personal
Benjamin James Swinford is the son of Tom and Sandi Swinford and has an older brother. His grandfather was a three-sport athlete at Washington State. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
