Senior Season — 2013-14Young's season was cut short by injury in the squad's first dual match. She was 9-5 in singles and 9-7 in doubles during non-scoring tournament play. She won the 'A' singles bracket title at the Cornell Fall Invitational, and eight of her doubles victories came when paired with Lauren Frazier.
Junior Season — 2012-13Young was once again one of the Big Red's leading contributors, going 12-5 in singles and a team-best 13-4 in doubles during dual matches. She earned her first All-Ivy League honors when she was placed on the Second Team for doubles with partner Lauren Frazier. Young was a remarkable 12-1 from the No. 2 doubles position. The majority of those matches came alongside senior Christine Ordway, though Young was also 4-0 with sophomore Lauren Frazier and 1-0 with freshman Christy Kung. Frazier and Young were 5-1 in Ivy League play from the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. In singles, Young was particularly good at the No. 3 spot, where she was 9-2. A 3-4 record in Ivy League play was second-best only to freshman Laila Judeh, with all of Young's victories coming in straight sets against Dartmouth's Janet Liu, Brown's Sarah Kandath and Princeton's Monica Chow — the latter being the Big Red's lone singles point of the match. ... Young was also 7-4 in singles and 6-4 in doubles during non-scoring tournaments. All of those doubles matches came alongside freshman Laila Judeh, as the duo took third place in 'A' doubles at the Cornell Fall Invitational. At the same tournament, Young advanced to the 'A' singles finals before falling to teammate Sarah O'Neil in three sets.
Sophomore Season — 2011-12Young led the team in singles victories during dual matches, racking up a 13-5 record from primarily the No. 3 spot in the order. She kicked off the second portion of the schedule with nine consecutive victories. She defeated Columbia's Iani Alecsiu twice in three sets. Young was also 6-8 in doubles, primarily competing at the No. 2 spot with Gabby Sullivan or Christine Ordway. She was 8-4 in tournament singles play. ... At the team's postseason banquet, Young was given the award for completing the match of the year on March 23 at Coastal Carolina. With the Big Red wrapping up its Spring Break trip to the Carolinas and trailing the Chanticleers in the match, 3-2, Young was down 4-6, 2-5 in the second set. She fought off five match points against Mikaela Kristofersson and emerged with a second-set win in a tiebreaker, then rolled through the third set for a dramatic 4-6, 7-6, 6-0 victory that tied the team score at 3.
Freshman Season — 2010-11Young had an exceptionally strong rookie campaign and was given the team’s Most Improved Player award as a result. She ended the year with a overall singles record of 22-13 playing predominantly at the number two spot. She went 12-8 through the dual match season and 2-5 in Ivy League play. In doubles, paired with Christine Ordway, she posted a 22-9 record overall and a mark of 15-4 in the spring, including an impressive 5-2 record in the Ivy League.
At St. Stephen’s Episcopal SchoolYoung lettered four times at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, playing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and was named the school’s Superior Senior Achievement award winner. She was ranked as high as No. 69 on TennisRecruiting.com and was ranked No. 3 in the state of Texas for girls under-18. Prior to that, Young had been ranked No. 1 in Chicago for girls under-14.
PersonalRyann Hayley Young is the daughter of Alan and Cara Young and she has one older brother. She is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.
