At Cornell
The first-year starter and transfer from UCLA led Ivy League in tackles per game in Ivy contests (9.1) and finished the season third on the team in tackles with 77. Barut had three pass breakups and two forced fumbles. After becoming a starter in week three, Barut had 67 tackles in the last seven games. Included was a 15 tackle performance against Brown and 12 vs. both Harvard and Princeton. Barut also forced two fumbles and broke up three passes. A hard-hitting playmaker, Barut established himself as one of the league's top young defenders in his first season with the Big Red.

At UCLA
Barut made the Bruins as a walk-on, but did not see varsity action during his redshirt season.

At Los Alamitos HS
A second-team all-state selection at Los Alamitos HS, Barut was first-team all-league and all-county in his final season. A three-time first-time all-league pick, her was the conference's Defensive Back of the Year as a senior after being the runner-up as a junior. He was team captain as a senior after helping lead the team to a league crown his junior year. Barut was a national scholar-athlete during his final season and was invited to compete in the senior North-South All-Star Game, the 2010 SOCAL Polynesian All-Star Football Game and the 2010 Samoa Bowl.

Joshua Adam Barut is the son of Stephen and Laura Barut. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
