Biography

Senior Season — 2013-14
Iles concluded a storied career with his hometown Big Red by going 16-10-5 with a 2.17 goals-against average and .919 percentage — of which the latter two numbers tie career-bests. He was named the Ivy League Player of the Year, ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year, a Senior CLASS Award First Team All-American, an All-Ivy League First Team selection and an All-ECAC Hockey Second Team selection. Iles started 101 of the Big Red's last 102 games and had the had the third-longest consecutive start streak in NCAA Division I history (80). He won ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors three times, pushing his career total to nine. Iles also had nine career shutouts, with the final one coming in the deciding Game 3 of the ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series against Clarkson, which the Big Red won in overtime, 1-0. In the penultimate game of the regular season, Iles broke the program's all-time saves record held by Ben Scrivens '10. He is also in the program's top 10 for tie (first,17), wins (fourth, 58), shutouts (tied for fifth, nine), goals-against average (sixth, 2.25) and save percentage (.918, eighth). At the team's postseason banquet, Iles won the Wendell & Francelia Earle Award, which is presented annually to the top student in each class. Iles also won the Bill Doran Sportsmanship Award for a second straight season, becoming the first member of the Big Red to do so since current assistant coach Topher Scott '08 won the award in his final three seasons on East Hill. Iles was also presented with the Mark Weiss Memorial Award, which is awarded to a senior with a career-long dedication and passion for the sport of hockey. Shortly after Cornell's season ending, Iles signed a professional contract with the ECHL's Florida Everblades.

Junior Season — 2012-13
Iles made 898 saves, tied for second most in a single season in program history, which illustrated just how much the team relied on its goaltender. He started all 34 games, finishing all of those games — with the exception of the final 31 seconds of the Senior Night game, when he yielded the crease to make room for senior Omar Kanji's collegiate debut. Despite the team's struggles, Iles' numbers stayed in line with what he posted over his first two seasons on East Hill. He started the season where he left off, positing a 19-save shutout against Colorado College on Oct. 26. Iles then made a career-high 44 saves in the first period of a 3-1 victory at Colgate on Nov. 2. He was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week three times, including a Nov. 27 honor fueled by his 26 saves in a 5-1 win over Michigan at Madison Square Garden. He came up big in the playoffs, despite playing with an injury. His eighth career shutout came in Game 1 of the ECAC Hockey Championship first round series sweep of Princeton, then he made 60 saves in Game 3 of the quarterfinals series at No. 1 Quinnipiac — which was just one save off the single-game program record.

Sophomore Season — 2011-12
Iles emerged as not only the team’s exclusive starting goalie, but one of the top goaltenders in ECAC Hockey. He was named to the All-Ivy League First Team, helping the Big Red capture the Ivy League title. With three consecutive shutouts in November, he recorded the second-longest shutout streak in program history, spanning 213 minutes, 35 seconds over a five-game span. But Iles wasn’t done there — he posted back-to-back shutouts against St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3, respectively, spurring another lengthy shutout streak of 152:36 that ranks ninth all-time in Big Red history. In the process, he also set a record for longest streak in ECAC Hockey play of 286:54 from November to January. His success stretched into the postseason, as evidenced by a career-high 46 saves in a March 9 double-overtime victory against Dartmouth. Iles was third in the nation with six shutouts and 10th in goal-against average. He was named the team's most vaulable player at the postseason banquet.

Freshman Season — 2010-11
Iles split time with Mike Garman in a two-goalie rotation during his first season at Cornell, and finished his freshman season with a spot on the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie team. Iles wrapped up his first season at Cornell with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage to go along with an 8-7-2 record. Iles made his collegiate debut in relief of Garman in the season opener against New Hampshire, stopping all seven shots he faced in the game's final 14 minutes. He then made his first career start the following night against RIT, allowing four goals on 22 shots. Iles picked up his first career win on Nov. 6 at Clarkson, stopping 35 shots in a 6-1 victory against the Knights. He posted 10 games with 30 saves or more, including a season high of 36 against Princeton on Nov. 13. Iles also stopped 35 shots in a 4-1 loss to Union on Jan. 15. Iles got the starting nod in the ECAC Hockey championship game against Yale, but took the loss in that contest, giving up five goals on 15 shots in the first 28 minutes of the game. Iles missed the Florida College Classic in late December, as he was named to the US National Team for the World Junior Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., becoming the first Cornellian to win a bronze medal as a part of Team USA.
