Biography

At Cornell
Career:
Tesoriero established himself as one of the best face-off men in Cornell history, setting the school record and ranking 11th in NCAA history with 667 career face-off wins. He finished the 2014 season ranked fifth in the Ivy League and 36th in the nation in face-off winning percentage (.522).

Tesoriero also established the school record for career ground balls with 362, a mark that ranked 16th in NCAA history. He finished the 2014 season ranked first in the Ivy League and 10th in the nation with 7.88 ground balls per game.

Tesoriero also set the Cornell single-season marks for face off wins (241) and ground balls (133) with a stellar junior season in 2013.

He is just the second Big Red player to record 100 ground balls in a season twice in a career, joining Tarik Ergin (1982, 1983).

Junior (2013): Tesoriero took nearly every faceoff for the Big Red during his junior season, going 241-for-415 and finishing the year ranked second in the Ivy League and 12th in the nation in winning percentage (.581). His 241 faceoff wins are the most by a Cornell player since that statistic started being kept during the 1977 season, breaking the school record held by Clayton Weber (192 in 1995). Tesoriero finished the year ranked second in the Ivy League and 11th in the country with 7.39 ground balls per game. He is just the eighth player in Big Red history to collect at least 100 ground balls in a season, finishing with 133 to set the school single-season record, eclipsing a mark set in 1978 by Craig Jaeger. Tesoriero recorded double-digit faceoff wins in 15-of-18 contests, with a career-high 21 wins vs. Princeton on Apr. 27. He also picked up at least five ground balls in 13 contests, including a career-high 13 vs. Maryland in the NCAA tournament to register the most ground balls by a Big Red player in an NCAA tournament game since 1995.

Sophomore (2012): Tesoriero was the Big Red’s main face-off man during his sophomore season, ranking 13th in the nation with a .593 winning percentage. He captured 137-of-231 restarts and also ranked second in the Ivy League and 27th in the country with 4.62 ground balls per game. He won at least 10 face offs in 10-of-14 contests and picked up at least one ground ball in all but one game. Tesoriero posted a season-high 17 face-off wins in back-to-back games to open the season against Binghamton and Army. He also had a season-high 11 ground balls against the Black Knights and Princeton. Tesoriero finished the year with two points, handing out assists against Binghamton and Princeton.

Freshman (2011): Tesoriero was the Big Red’s most effective option in the face-off circle over the second half of the season. He saw action in all 17 games, converting .562 of his restarts (90-of-160). Through the first seven games of the year, he went 12-of-26 in the face-off circle (.462) but in the final 10 games he won 78-of-134 (.582). Tesoriero finished the season with 43 ground balls and two caused turnovers. He also tallied one goal and two assists on the year. Tesoriero won 10 or more face-offs on four occasions, including the final three games of the season. He posted a season-high 15 wins (15-of-24) against Virginia in the NCAA tournament.

A high school All-American and a four-year letter winner, Tesoriero helped Syosset high school to a pair of Nassau County Class A championships. In 2008, he led Syosset to the Long Island Class A championship before finishing as the New York State Class A finalists. He served as team captain twice and was named to the New York Scholar Athlete team three times. Tesoriero was an all-county selection as a senior and as a junior and was named all-conference as a sophomore. He also lettered twice in football and was named all-conference as a senior.
