Biography

Junior Season — 2014
Jones became the highest selection from Cornell at the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, when the Arizona Diamondbacks picked him with the 120th overall selection in the fourth round on June 6, 2014. He became a hot commodity in scouting circles after throwing 96 mph during the Big Red's Scout Day in the fall, then backed it up with an impressive season as part of the team's stellar 1-2 starting punch with Michael Byrne '16. Jones led the team with nine starts, posting a 2.50 earned-run average with 47 strikeouts next to just 13 walks in 50.1 innings. He also led the team with two complete games, running his career total to five. He surrendered more than two earned runs in just one of his nine starts. Jones started the season by fanning eight over six innings to earn a victory March 1 at Navy, though he was particularly dominant in Ivy League play with a 1.69 ERA. He earned an April 6 victory at Brown, striking out seven with no walks while yielding just an unearned run in a seven-inning complete game. He then ended his season with his longest outing, again fanning seven with no walks over eight one-run innings at Princeton.

Sophomore Season — 2013
Jones started seven games before making his last two appearances in long relief, posting a 4-1 record with a 3.47 earned run average and his first collegiate save. Jones started his season with three shutout innings on March 3 at Maryland-Eastern Shore, then went to 2-0 after his second start March 10 at George Washington. He struck out a season-high five batters in his next two starts at Appalachian State and Villanova before improving to 4-0 with a five-inning start against Yale. Jones then earned a save in his first relief appearance of the season, surrendering one run over four innings to finish off Penn on April 21. He then worked 2.2 scoreless innings a week later against Princeton to hold the lead before freshman Matt Horton earned the save in a one-run ballgame.

Freshman Season — 2012
One of the Big Red’s four weekend starters, Jones got off to a blazing-hot start in non-league play, including a five-inning shutout of Maryland-Eastern Shore in his debut. In his first four starts, Jones was 4-0 with a 1.44 ERA and 27 strikeouts against just four walks in 23 innings of work and three complete games. ... Jones made two relief appearances late in the season, including a three-inning outing against Dartmouth in Game 2 of the Ivy League Championship Series.

Prior to Cornell
Jones was selected as an All-District pitcher, All-Metro pitcher and outfielder and All-State pitcher in New Mexico  — all first-team honors while competing as a senior at Albuquerque Academy. He was named an AP Scholar with Honor and is an accomplished musician, being selected for the New Mexico All-State Guitar Ensemble.

Personal
Brent Joshua Jones is the son of Michael and Mary Pat Jones, and he has an older sister and a younger brother. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
