Senior Season — 2014-15Nguyen racked up a 12-4 record with Stefan Vinti at the No. 3 position in doubles matches during dual play. The duo was undefated in Ivy League matches, going 5-0 in completed matches with the remaining two unfinished. He also appeared in one singles match, coming up short in a tilt against Princeton's Kial Kaiser in the first round of the ECAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 14. ... During fall tournament play, Nguyen was 1-3 in singles matches and 3-1 in doubles.
Junior Season — 2013-14Nguyen earned All-Ivy League Second Team honors, competing exclusively with classmate Jason Luu in league play – primarily from the No. 1 position with an impressive 5-2 record in those matches. Kicking off the conference slate against the eventual champions, Luu and Nguyen knocked off the Lions' pairing of Ivy League Player of the Year Winston Lin and Mike Vermeer. The following weekend, Luu and Nguyen toppled Dartmouth's Cameron Ghorbani and Brendan Tannenbaum – ranked 20th in the country at the time. Overall in spring dual matches, Luu and Nguyen both had a team-high nine victories, and they finished the season ranked 67th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Nguyen was also 6-3 in singles matches, competing in the bottom half of the order. ... Nguyen was 4-3 in singles in fall tournaments, including a advancement into the semifinals of the 'D' bracket at the Ivy Plus Invitational in late September. He was also 7-3 in doubles, including a trip into the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional finals with Luu. The tandem fell to Sam Fleck and Chris Vrabel, 8-2, in an all-Cornell final Oct. 23 at Reis Tennis Center.
Sophomore Season — 2012-13Nguyen continued to be one of the Big Red's most successful competitors, going 12-7 in singles and 14-5 in doubles during dual-match play. He was an undefeated 4-0 at No. 5 singles, which included two of his three wins in Ivy League play. The rest of his singles appearances came at the No. 4 spot, including seven contests in his 10-match winning streak during nonleague play. All but one of his doubles appearances came with classmate Jason Luu, as the pair was an impressive 13-4 from the No. 2 position. They were 2-3 in Ivy League play, with the two other matches halted before completion. ... Nguyen was also 9-3 in singles and 13-2 in doubles during fall tournaments. He paired up with sophomore Sam Fleck to rattle off 10 straight victories to start the season, including 'A' bracket titles at the Columbia Classic and Cornell Fall Invitational, and a march into the semifinals of the prestigious USTA/ITA Northeast Regional. Nguyen and Kyle Berman were 3-1, advancing to the 'B' finals of the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational.
Freshman Season — 2011-12Nguyen led the team in dual-match singles victories with a 14-8 record and a 9-9 mark with five different partners in doubles. He competed in singles slots 3-6 and was particularly effective from the bottom two spots, where he was 9-4. Nguyen won his final five matches of the season and nine of his last 11. All seven of his Ivy League appearances came at No. 6, and he led the squad with a 6-1 league mark — including three-set victories over Dartmouth's Brandon DeBot and Princeton's Dan Davies. In fall tournament play, Nguyen tied for the team lead with 10 singles victories to offset four losses. He had a seven-match winning streak, including a run to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championship before a loss to Yale's No. 2, Marc Powers. He was ranked the 10th in singles in the Northeast Region by the ITA in early January. In fall doubles, Nguyen was 6-2 and won the White Bracket title of the Dartmouth Invitational alongside sophomore Evan McElwain.
At George C. Marshall HSA five-star recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network, Nguyen won the 2010 USTA Boys’ 18 Northeast Region Championships, the USTA Boys’ 18 National Open and the USTA Boys’ 18 Championship. He was also a finalist at the 2009 USTA Boys’ 18 Northeast Region Championships, as well as the USTA Boys’ 16 National Clay Court Championship.
PersonalQuoc-Daniel Hung Nguyen is the son of Ngoc and Caroline Nguyen, and he has an older sister. Nguyen is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
