Biography

At Cornell
Junior (2016): One of the most dominant face-off men in the nation, Massimilian earned second-team All-Ivy honors following a junior season in which he ranked second in the Ivy League and fifth in the nation in winning percentage (.640), and led the conference and ranked third in the country with 9.42 ground balls per game. He finished the year ranked fifth in Cornell history in both face-off winning percentage (.640) and ground balls in a single season (113), while ranking eighth overall in face-off wins in a single season (158). Massimilian won at least .500 percent of face offs taken in 10 contests and picked up double-digit ground balls in six games.
Sophomore (2015): The breakout star of the 2015 campaign, Massimilian proved to be one of the most dominant face-off men in the nation, finishing the year ranked first in the Ivy League and seventh in the country with a .654 winning percentage. He broke the school record for face-off win percentage (.648; Frank Kelly in 1986) that stood for nearly 30 years, and also set the new standard for wins in a single season with 249 (249-of-381). Massimilian won the face-off battle in 14-of-16 contests on the year, posting double-digit wins in all but one game. He won 20+ face-offs four times, including a season-high 24 vs. Albany during the first round of the NCAA tournament. Massimilian also led the conference and ranked second in the nation with 9.38 ground balls per game. He broke the school record for ground balls in a single season with 151. He picked up 10+ ground balls in 10-of-16 games, including a season-high 14 at Harvard. He also scored his lone goal of the season vs. the Crimson.
Freshman (2014): Massimilian saw action in four games during his rookie season, playing vs. Canisius, Penn, Dartmouth and Brown. He went for 3-of-5 in the face-off circle, including a perfect 2-of-2 performance vs. the Big Green. Massimilian also picked up two ground balls at Dartmouth.
Prior to Cornell
Massimilian earned a combined four letters at Highland Park high school and Salisbury School. He helped Highland Park to the 2012 Texas State Championship, and earned his team’ MVP, as well as all-state honors in the process. Masimillian went on to be named All-New England in 2013.
Personal
Domenic Richard Massimilian is the son of Richard and Jeri Massimilian and he has one younger brother and one younger sister. He is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.
