Biography
2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons
• Unable to play while rehabilitating an injury.
As a sophomore (2015-16)
• Scored two goals and added eight assists for 10 points in second straight season appearing in at least 30 games — the only Big Red defenseman able to make that claim.
• Opened the season with four assists in first four games, including a pair of helpers Nov. 7 vs. Quinnipiac.
• Assisted on only goal of Cornell's 1-0 victory Nov. 21 at Brown, then assisted on overtime winner Dec. 28 against Providence when the defending national champion Friars were ranked No. 1 in the country.
• First goal of the season came against rival Harvard on Jan. 23 at Lynah Rink.
• Scored first collegiate postseason goal March 5 against Union in Game 2 of an ECAC Hockey Championship first round series.
As a freshman (2014-15)
• One of just six players to dress for all 31 games, where he was part of a defensive unit that ranked seventh in the country in goals-against average.
• One of just four players to finish the season with a plus rating, while also pitching in offensively with two goals and six assists.
• Eight points ranked third among defensemen and tops among blueliners eligible to return in 2015-16.
• First collegiate goal came on the power play in a 3-2 victory over nationally-ranked Yale on Nov. 21,
• Followed that up with two assists the following night in a 4-0 dismantling of Brown.
• Second goal was most memorable, leading to an overtime win Jan. 30 at Colgate.
Prior to Cornell
• Arrival (along with that of Jared Fiegl) marks fifth straight season Cornell has added a player directly from the esteemed U.S. National Team Development Program (following in footsteps of Andy Iles, Cole Bardreau, Gavin Stoick and Clint Lewis).
• Played in 49 games for the USNTDP, scoring one goal and adding eight assists for nine point and a plus-7 rating.
• Helped the squad capture the Four Nations title as a member of the Under-17 team in 2012-13, then was part of the Five Nations championship team with the Under-18s in February 2014.
• Served as captain of U.S. squad at 2012 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria.
Personal
• Ryan Preston Bliss is the son of George and Kelly Bliss, and he has two brothers.
• Mother, Kelly (Clark) Bliss ’89, played lacrosse and field hockey at Cornell.
• Great grandfather, grandfather, an aunt and an uncle have also attended Cornell.
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
