Biography

Senior Season — 2015
McAfee completed his career at Cornell with an impressive senior campaign, including his second career first team All-Ivy selection. He was a mainstay in the Big Red rotation, starting nine games, four of which he completed himself to go along with a pair of solo shutouts in Ivy League play on April 4 at Dartmouth and in his last appearance in a Big Red jersey on April 26 against Princeton. His performance agains the Big Green was his best, allowing just three batters to reach base over seven innings, by giving up two hits and an error with six strikeouts. The pair of shutouts put him at the top of the list when it comes to shutouts in a single season, as only one other Cornellian has completed the feat in a season. His control was phenomenal again this year considering he surrended just six walks in 56 innings pitched, to help his career average of giving up 1.14 walks per nine innings pitched, which is a Cornell record. His 1.77 ERA led the team and opposing batters hit just .210 against him, both of which were his best marks throughout his four years on the East Hill.

Junior Season — 2014
McAfee made two starts before his season ended with an injury. He started off with a no-decision March 2 at Navy, surrendering one run on three hits through five innings. The following week at George Washington, he earned a complete-game win by yielded three runs on eight hits through seven innings.

Sophomore Season — 2013
McAfee was the Big Red's steadiest starter from start to finish, tying with classmate Nick Busto for the team lead with nine starts. He posted a 3-2 record with a 2.28 earned run average and six quality starts. His record could have been even better, but he threw a combined 14 scoreless innings in starts against Saint Peter's and Dartmouth with the bullpen eventually taking losses. McAfee struck out a season-high seven batters in six scoreless innings on March 23, combining with two other pitchers for the shutout victory. He tossed his first collegiate complete game in an April 21 game against Penn, then matched that effort the seven-inning one-run effort the next weekend against Princeton, only to have that game go into extra innings. He continued to exhibit fantastic control, striking out 32 batters compared to just eight walks. Opposing batters hit just .220 off McAfee, which ranks sixth-lowest for a Big Red season since the statistic was first compiled in 1989.

Freshman Season — 2012
McAfee earned an All-Ivy League Second Team selection, the only freshman among the six starting pitchers on the two teams. He is the first Cornell pitcher to rack up a 6-0 record since Greg Myers finished the 1979 season with an identical mark during his freshman season. McAfee finally suffered his first loss in the team's second game of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional against East Carolina on June 2. ... McAfee worked into the sixth inning in six of his last seven appearances, including four quality starts. More importantly, he delivered two of those quality starts with the Big Red in must-win situations. The first time was April 29 at Princeton, when he allowed two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings in a no-decision, and the second was May 6 in Game 3 of the Ivy League Championship Series against Dartmouth, when he yielded one run on four hits through six innings in another no-decision. ... McAfee led the team with 41 strikeouts while issuing just 10 walks. ... He was named Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week after tossing eight scoreless innings against Columbia on April 14. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. ... McAfee struck out 10 batters in 5.1 innings of work in his second collegiate start on March 11 at George Washington. ... He did not surrender more than four earned runs in any of his 11 starts.

Prior to Cornell
McAfee led Bothell HS to the Washington state 4A championship his senior season, posting a 10-0 record with seven shutouts and miniscule 0.55 earned-run average. For his efforts, he was named the Washington state 4A Player of the Year with the accompanying spot on the first-team all-state squad. He earned first-team all-league honors in both his junior and senior campaigns, serving as captain both years. He also competed for three years in cross country.
