Biography

Senoir Season — 2015
Upton made ten appearances on the hill for the Big Red in his final season, including a pair of starts. He lasted five innings or more in both starts, but his best outings came in long relief opportunities. On March 13 against LIU-Brooklyn he threw five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and had a repeat performance of five innings of scoreless ball in his final showing on April 26 against Princeton. He also picked up a victory on March 29 against Yale when he pitched three innings while allowing a run to score in the Big Red's 7-5 triumph.

Junior Season — 2014
For the second straight season, Upton led the Big Red in pitching appearances. He took the mound 13 times, all in relief, posting a 1-0 record and 3.10 earned run average. Upton pitched to a lot of contact, issuing just five walks and fanning 12 across 20.1 innings. He earned his fifth career victory March 29 against Dartmouth, with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings against the Red Rolfe Division champion Big Green.

Sophomore Season — 2013
Upton's 15 appearances led the team's pitching staff, all coming in relief. He led the Ivy League with three saves. It also tied for the overall team lead with freshman Matt Horton, while posting a 2-2 record to go with a 3.34 earned run average. Opposing batters hit just .238 off Upton, and he fanned 29 batters in 29.2 innings. His longest outing was his best, when he worked 4.1 scoreless innings at Columbia while striking out seven batters to earn the victory in a 10-inning game. All three of Upton's saves came in Ivy League play against Yale, Penn and Princeton.

Freshman Season — 2012
Upton's 10 appearances were tied for the most among the Big Red’s lefties, and he earned victories in consecutive outings in late March. He tossed 2.2 scoreless innings against Longwood on March 23 to earn his first collegiate victory. He didn't walk any batters in his last 11.2 innings, which includes a career-high five innings against Siena on April 17. Upton pitched 3.1 innings against Brown in his Ivy League debut on April 7, setting the stage for a Big Red comeback which culminated in an 11-inning victory.

Prior to Cornell
Upton played for four seasons at Dulaney HS, culminating with the 2011 Baltimore County Player of the Year honor. He also participated in the MSABC Brooks Robinson All-Star Game that season, and was named to the All-County Team in 2010.
