Second-Team All-Ivy (2016)
At Cornell
Career: Alyssa Phelps is seen as one of the most influential players in Big Red volleyball history. She excelled on the court all four years of her career, helping rename Cornell volleyball and leading the squad to its best performance since 2008 during her final season.
Phelps was named second-team All-Ivy in 2016. She also capped off an incredible four years by becoming just one of two Big Red players, and twenty in the history of the Ivy League, to reach 3,000 career assists.
Phelps had 923 assists her rookie season, which was 14th in Cornell history for assists in a single season. She also had 57 assists in one match her freshman season, a career high for the setter, placing 29th in Big Red history for a single match. Phelps excelled her sophomore season as well, earning 770 assists, good for 20th in Cornell history.
Her senior season at Cornell led her to 837 assists, 17th overall in the history of the Big Red. Phelps also closed her career ranked 19th in Big Red history in both digs (718) and block assists (160). She finished the 2016 season ranked third in the Ivy League with 8.54 assists per set.
Junior (2015):Â Phelps finished her junior season with 651 assists, posting double-digit assists in 23-of-24 matches. She had at least 20 assists in 17 contests, including a season-high 50 vs. Yale on Oct. 30, and her 7.00 assists per game ranked sixth in the Ivy League. Phelps started 22 matches and played in 93-of-95 sets during the year. She ranked third on the team with 167 digs, averaging 1.80 digs per set. She also finished with 38 total blocks.
Sophomore (2014): Phelps closed the 2014 campaign with 770 assists, good for 20th overall in Cornell history for assists in a single season. She registered at least 20 assists in 22-of-24 matches this year, handing out a season-high 50 assists in victories against both Siena and Columbia. Phelps started all 24 matches, playing in all 87 sets, and finished the year ranked fourth in the Ivy League with 8.85 assists per set. She also finished the year ranked second on the team in total blocks with 45, was fourth overall with 14 service aces, and was fourth overall with 176 digs.Â
Freshman (2013): Phelps had an outstanding rookie season, amassing 923 assists to finish the year ranked 14th in Cornell history for assists in a single season. Additionally, her 9.23 assists per set rank 20th overall in Big Red history for a single season. She started all 24 matches, playing in all 100 sets, and finished the year ranked second in the Ivy League with 9.23 assists per set. Phelps registered at least 30 assists in 18-of-24 matches, including a season-high 57 at LIU Brooklyn, a mark that ranks 29th in Cornell history for assists in a single match. In all, Phelps reached 50 assists in a match on five occasions, including three Ivy matches. She finished the year ranked second on the team with 18 service aces, was third overall with 48 total blocks, and was also third overall with 181 digs.
At Blue Valley Southwest HS
Phelps lettered three times at Blue Valley Southwest high school, after earning one varsity letter at Blue Valley West as a freshman. She was a three-time All-EKL honoree and was named a MoKan All-Star in 2012. Phelps helped Blue Valley West to a state runner-up finish in 2009 and earned an AVCA/MaxPreps Player of the Week honor in 2011. She was also an Evelyn Gates Award nominee, given to honor the top female high school varsity volleyball student-athlete in the Kansas City area. Phelps played her club volleyball with Performance Volleyball Academy, serving as team captain. She also lettered three times in track and field at Blue Valley Southwest.
Personal
Alyssa Renee Phelps is the daughter of Harold and Donna Phelps and she has one younger sister. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
