Biography

Senior Season — 2016-17
Freschi wrapped up his collegiate career with 126 games, which was the most among his classmates. He received the team's Cornell Hockey Association Award after the season for a second straight year. The award is given annually to the player whose contributions to the team don't show up in the box score, but rather are in the form of energy, heart and hustle. True to form, Freschi was a fixture on the Big Red’s penalty kill and led the team with a plus-14 rating. He accumulated 14 points on two goals and 12 assists while playing all 35 games, including a stretch of four games in which he posted six points during the Big Red's six-game winning streak during the latter part of the fall semester. He scored the winning goal Nov. 29 at Colgate before doling out a pair of assists three days later in the first of two victories over Miami. His final collegiate goal was the icing on the cake of the Big Red's ECAC Hockey Championship semifinal victory over Union on March 17 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Junior Season — 2015-16
Freschi had the rare distinction of scoring his two goals in the Big Red's first and last games of the season. He scored Oct. 30 against Niagara for the team's first goal of the year, then scored early in the third period of Game 3 on March 13 in an ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series at Quinnipiac. At the team's postseason banquet, Freschi was presented the Cornell Hockey Association Award — given annually to the player whose contributions to the team don't show up in the box score, but rather are in the form of energy, heart and hustle. He was also presented the Joe DeLibero-Stan Tsapis Award for skilled efficiency, unselfish dedication and hard-nosed competitive desire. Freschi was a fixture on the Big Red's penalty kill, and he was often leaned on to be the only forward on the ice when Cornell faced a two-man disadvantage.

Sophomore Season — 2014-15
Freschi had three goals and two assists for five points over 29 games, but he demonstrated a knack for scoring big goals to complement his overall solid game. His two game-winning goals were tied for the most on the team, including a dramatic short-handed goal in overtime against Clarkson on Nov. 14. He also scored a short-handed goal on Dec. 5 against Denver, which left him tied for sixth in the nation for most short-handed goals for the season. Freschi also claimed the team's Crimson Cup award, which is given annually to the player who was the standout performer in the season series against Harvard. The Big Red won the season series against the eventual league champions, earning an exhilarating 3-2 victory on Jan. 23 at Lynah Rink on Freschi's winning goal with 41 seconds remaining in the third period.

Freshman Season — 2013-14
Freschi appeared in all but two games for the Big Red, which tied him for the most games played among freshmen forwards. While more of a natural winger, Freschi filled in admirably at center on several occasions. He scored both of his goals on the season in a 5-1 victory against Brown on Nov. 21 at Lynah Rink. He later notched his first collegiate point Jan. 25 against Clarkson when Jacob MacDonald converted a rebound created by Freschi's shot from the right circle.

Prior to Cornell
Freschi joins the Big Red from the same Dubuque Fighting Saints program in the United States Hockey League that sent Joakim Ryan '15 to East Hill. Freschi posted 16 goals and 16 assists with a sparkling plus-20 rating during the 2012-13 regular season, then helped the Fighting Saints capture the Clark Cup title. His 16 goals ranked fourth on the team, coming on the heels of a 19-point campaign in his first season with the team. Prior to his USHL days, Freschi played for Bloomington Jefferson HS in Minnesota.

Personal
Eric Charles Freschi is the son of Brian and Charlotte Freschi, and he has a younger sister. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
