Biography
At CornellĀ
Junior (2015-16): Aston started all 28 games during her junior season and ranked second on the team in both points (10.5) and rebounds (5.9) per game, marks that were good for 18th and 11th, respectively, in the Ivy League. She also led the team and ranked eighth in the conference in shooting percentage (.461) and was among the league leaders in offensive rebounds (ninth ā 2.0 per game) and defensive rebounds (14th ā 3.9 per game).Ā Aston posted five double-doubles and scored in double-digits 14 times on the season, including two 20-point performances. She also led Cornell in rebounding nine times on the year.
Sophomore (2014-15): Aston saw a significant increase in playing time during her sophomore season, moving into a starting role and getting the nod in 27-of-28 games. She finished the year ranked second on the team and 14th in the Ivy League with 11.3 points per game. Aston was also second on the team and seventh in the conference with 7.3 rebounds per game. One of the best shooters in the Ancient Eight, she ranked third in the conference with a .504 shooting percentage and also set the school record for field goal shooting percentage in a single game (1.000) after going a perfect 8-for-8 against Marshall. She also ranked in the top 10 in the Ivy League in offensive rebounds (fourth ā 2.4 per game) and defensive rebounds (seventh ā 4.9 per game). Aston finished the year ranked in the top 20 of several Cornell single-season charts, including field goal percentage (.504), defensive rebounds (ninth ā 136), rebounds (12th ā 203), offensive rebounds (15th ā 76), and field goals made (16th ā 140). She led the team in rebounding 14 times, with a career-high 12 rebounds at Vermont and led the team in scoring seven times, including a career-high 22 points vs. Youngstown State. Aston scored in double-digits 17 times overall with two 20+ point performances and posted seven double-doubles on the year. She was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, as well as the College Sports Madness Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the Big Red defeat Columbia Ā in New York City with a 14-point, 10 rebound double-double. Aston registered six of her 14 points in the final 7:02 of the contest as the Big Red erased a five-point deficit en route to the victory. She shot 60 percent from the floor (6-of-10) and registered career-highs with three steals and two blocks in the win. Aston also hit the game-winning shot in a 66-64 decision vs. Bryant with a 15-foot jumper with 4.4 seconds to play.Ā
Freshman (2013-14): Aston had a solid rookie campaign, playing in all but one game on the season, as the Big Redās first forward off the bench. She averaged 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game and finished the year with 10 blocks, eight steals and seven assists. Aston registered a career-high 12 points vs. Princeton on Feb. 8 and matched it in Cornellās next game vs. Dartmouth on Feb. 14.She also scored 10 points vs. Harvard on Feb. 28 and finished with nine points and six rebounds at Princeton at March 7. Aston was instrumental in Cornellās victory over Yale on Feb. 1, pulling down seven rebounds, five of which came during the crucial final seven minutes as Cornell put the game out of reach. She also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds vs. Bucknell in just 15 minutes of action. Aston saw her first collegiate action in Cornellās season-opener vs. Colgate and was a perfect 2-of-2 from the field and the charity stripe for 6 points.
At Louisville HS
Aston lettered four times at Louisville high school, serving as captain for three seasons and finishing her career with more than 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. She was named the Mission League MVP and Los Angeles Daily News Player of the Year following a senior season in which she averaged 22.8 points, 12.8 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 2.1 steals per game.Ā Aston was named All-Mission League twice and was a two-time Daily News Future All-Star. She was also named to the All-Daily News team and the Daily News Senior All-Star team in 2013. Following her playing career, she had her jersey retired by Louisville high school.Ā Aston also lettered once in volleyball.
Personal
Nicholle Marie Aston is the daughter of Robert and Marianella Aston and she has a younger sister. Aston comes from an athletic family, as her father was on the cycling team at UCLA, while her mother played basketball USC. Additionally, her grandfather was a professional soccer player in Colombia in the 1950s, while an uncle played basketball professionally in Spain during the 1990s.Ā She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
