Biography
As a junior (2018)
• Saw action in six games.
• Earned playing time on the second offensive midfield.
• Registered two goals and two assists on the season.
• Tallied one goal and one assist vs. Air Force.
• Scored against Brown during the regular season.
• Handed out one assist vs. Dartmouth.
As a sophomore (2017)
• Saw action in seven games as a sophomore, mostly as a member of the second line offensive midfield.
• Played against Penn State, Hobart, Albany, Colgate, Penn, Dartmouth, and Syracuse.
• Handed out an assist vs. the Nittany Lions and the Statesmen.
• Picked up one ground ball vs. the Big Green.
As a freshman (2016)
• Had a solid rookie campaign, playing in 10 games and earning five starts.
• Finished the year with three goals and four assists.
• His biggest goal of the season came with one-tenth of a second to play vs. Colgate, handing Cornell a 6-5 victory over the Raiders on March 15.
• His buzzer beater was the first for the Big Red since the 2008 season.
• Finished the year with seven ground balls and one caused turnover.
At Hempfield HS
• A two-time US Lacrosse All-American.
• Earned four varsity letters at Hempfield high school.
• Served as team captain during his senior season.
• Was the 2015 Lancaster-Lebanon League Player of the Year, and was a two-time first-team All Lancaster-Lebanon League selection.
• Set the school record for career points (239).
• Led the team to a league championship in 2013.
• As a junior he was named first- team All-Pennlive.com, after earning second-team Lancaster-Lebanon League honors as a sophomore and an honorable mention selection as a freshman.
• Won the 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence, given to the top 20 finalist across the country who demonstrates excellence in the classroom, athletics, and in their community.
• As a member of the Duke's Lacrosse Club, Ward won the 2014 Champ Camp National Championship and was name to the 2012 and 2013 Baltimore Shootout All-star team.
• Lettered twice in golf at Hempfield high school.
Personal
• Zachary John Ward is the son John and Lani Ward and he has one older brother.
• Cousin, Wesley Benjamin, played baseball at Kansas and is in the Texas Rangers system.
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
