Senior Season — 2016-17
Coon did not appear in any regular-season games. After the season, he was presented the Wendall and Francelia Earle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. The annual award is presented to the member in each class who has achieved the highest cumulative grade point average, which Coon achieved for a fourth straight season. Coon was also the Big Red's nominee for the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year award.

Junior Season — 2015-16
Coon made his collegiate debut March 13 in Game 3 of an ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series at Quinnipiac, playing the final 1 minute, 12 seconds without facing a shot on goal. After the season, Coon was presented the Wendall and Francelia Earle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. The annual award is presented to the member in each class who has achieved the highest cumulative grade point average, which Coon achieved for a third straight season.

Sophomore Season — 2014-15
Coon did not appear in any regular-season games.

Freshman Season — 2013-14
Coon did not appear in any regular-season games.

Prior to Cornell
Coon joins the Big Red from Taft School, which competes in the prestigious Founders League along with some of the best hockey prep school programs in New England. Prior to his time at Taft, Coon competed with the Saint Louis Selects at the AAA level and was a member of the All-Academic Team in 2010.
 
Personal
Ryan Richard Coon is the son of Dennis and Kim Coon, and he has an older sister. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
