ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman (2017-18)
All-Ivy Second Team (2017-18)
As a junior (2017-18)
• Named ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman.
• Played top-four minutes on a defensive unit that led the nation with a 1.58 goals against average, the eighth-lowest in NCAA Division I history.
• Garnered a spot on the All-Ivy League Second Team, ranking tied for 19th nationally with a plus-18 rating.
• Scored five goals with seven assists for 12 points while playing all but one game.
• Tied for the team lead in goals by defensemen with Brendan Smith, his frequent partner on the blue line.
• All goals came on the power play, tying him with Trevor Yates '18 for the most on the team.
• Four of his goals came in the first 10 games of the season, capped by a strike against Boston University on Nov. 25 in the biennial Red Hot Hockey game at Madison Square Garden.
• Provided one of the season's most memorable moments with a game-winning, power-play goal against rival Harvard on Nov. 11 with 2.3 seconds remaining in the third period.
As a sophomore (2016-17)
• Continued to be a stalwart, posting a plus-11 rating that was tied for the team lead among blueliners despite frequently being matched up against the opposition's strongest forward combinations.
• Also played an integral role in the successful conversion to defense for forward Alex Rauter, with the duo paired together for the final two months of the season.
• Pitched in 10 points on one goal and nine assists, with that lone tally starting the scoring in the Big Red's 4-1 victory Nov. 11 at Brown.
As a freshman (2015-16)
• Led team's blueliners in scoring with 15 points on three goals and 12 assists.
• Was one of just two defensemen on the team to appear in all of the team's 34 games.
• In ECAC Hockey play, was tied for second in the league in freshman defenseman scoring with 12 points over 22 games.
• Earned ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week honors on Dec. 8 after scoring one goal and adding two assists in the Big Red's 5-1 victory over Clarkson three days earlier.
• Turned in another three-point effort on the squad's Senior Night on Feb. 27 against Rensselaer.
Prior to Cornell
• A mainstay for USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks for three seasons, dresseing in 158 regular-season games and putting up 46 points with a plus-18 career rating.
• Also played in 11 games during the Black Hawks’ 2014 trip to the Clark Cup Finals, where they eventually fell in a decisive Game 5 to an Indiana Ice team that included future Big Red teammates Hayden Stewart and Dwyer Tschantz.
• Program’s first player to hail from California.
• Attended USA National Select Festival four times, playing in event's all-star game twice.
• While playing junior hockey, was also a member of the National Honor Society in 2013.
Personal
• Alec Ryan McCrea is the son of Gentry and Lori McCrea, and he has an older brother.
• Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
