Iron Man Award (2019)

As a junior (2017-18)

• Played top-four minutes on defensive unit that led the nation with a 1.58 goals against average, the eighth-lowest in NCAA Division I history.
• Most often paired with classmate Alec McCrea, finished with a plus-19 rating that tied for 12th-highest in the country.
• Tied for team lead in goals by defensemen with five.
• Added five assists for 10 total points after notching just three over first two collegiate seasons.
 

As a sophomore (2016-17)

• Settled into the role of a top-four defenseman, regularly playing alongside classmate Alec McCrea and helping the Big Red rank 10th in the nation on the season in team defense.
• Had three points on one goal and two assists, with his first collegiate goal coming on a shot from distance on Jan. 21 against St. Lawrence.
• Goal broke a 2-all tie and proved to be the game winner.
• Slowed by injuries late in the season, when he was only able to suit up for two of the team's final 12 games.
 

As a freshman (2015-16)

• Debut was delayed by preseason injury, though still appeared in 13 games — second-most on team from a freshman defenseman.
• Directed 10 shots on goal and helped create offense when on the ice.
• Blocked 13 shots.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Played two seasons with the USHL’s Omaha Lancers, accumulating 18 points through three goals and 15 assists during 2014-15 season.
• Helped Omaha to streak of consecutive five shutouts in 2014.
• Previously played five seasons with Colorado Thunderbirds AAA, winning Tier 1 Elite League championship in 2013 while leading league in goals among defensemen.
 

Personal

• Brendan Gregory Smith is the son of Bruce Smith and Trish Browne, and he has a brother and two sisters.
• Mother is a Cornell graduate; uncle, Sean Browne, played football at Boston University; and aunt, Jill Browne, played tennis and softball at Virginia.
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
