As a junior (2017-18)

• Tied for third in team scoring with 20 points on seven goals and 13 assists, despite missing six games in February due to injury.
• Led team in assists (10) during ECAC Hockey play.
• Served as co-captain alongside Alex Rauter '18.
• Earned All-Ivy League honorable mention after posting nine points on three goals and six assists in just nine Ancient Eight games.
• Scored three goals in two-game series sweep of Quinnipiac from March 9-10 in an ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series at Lynah Rink.
• Named one of three finalists for ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward honors.
• Team's nominee for prestigious ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year award.
• Presented team's Joe DeLibero-Stan Tsapis Award, given annually to the player who most nearly exemplifies the skilled efficiency, unselfish dedication, and hard-nosed competitive applications that distinguishes him as representative of Joe DiLibero's and Stan Tsapis' uniqueness.
• Earned team's Wendall and Francelia Earle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, which is presented to the member in each class who has achieved the highest cumulative grade point average.
• Record at least five points in season's first five games for a third year in a row.
• Had points in five straight games from Jan. 12-26.
• Blocked 27 shots, which led team's forward corps.
 

As a sophomore (2016-17)

• Named to All-Ivy League second team after leading team in scoring with 28 points on a team-high 15 goals and 13 assists.
• Played in all 35 games and had eight goals in the 10 games in Ivy play, which was tied for the circuit lead.
• Bounced around between several line combinations with nine different forwards assisting on his goals.
• After scoring a goal in each of the first two games, netted three goals in the first 35 minutes of a Nov. 12 game at Yale — the Big Red's first hat trick since 2010-11.
• Added winning and insurance goals Nov. 19 vs. Princeton to give him seven goals in team's first seven games.
• Scored a goal in six straight games from Feb. 12 to March 10.
• Presented team's Bill Doran Sportsmanship Award and an award to commemorate scoring of team's only short-handed goal.
 

As a freshman (2015-16)

• Ranked second on the team with a plus-13 rating while finishing third in team scoring with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists over 34 games.
• Played entire season on the team's 'JAM' line with Jeff Kubiak at center and Anthony Angello on the opposite wing.
• Had five two-point games, including in second collegiate game when he scored his first collegiate goal on Oct. 31 vs. Niagara.
• Next goal gave the Big Red a 4-1 lead against Quinnipiac on Nov. 7, and next was third goal in a four-game span the following weekend against Colgate.
• Two goals came on the power play, including team's only strike Jan. 29 at Clarkson.
• Later tied for team's scoring lead in postseason games with four points over five games, including March 12 goal during team's Game 2 win over Quinnipiac in an ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Spent 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons with Alberta Junior Hockey League's Fort McMurray Oil Barons, earning North Division all-rookie honors with 32 points in debut.
• Served as alternate captain during second season in Fort McMurray, scoring 16 goals and adding 23 assists for 39 points.
• Represented AJHL as member of Team Canada West during the 2014 World Junior 'A' Challenge.
• Presented Gas Drive AJHL Scholarship at the conclusion of his final season, awarded to an AJHL player deemed most deserving after writing an essay describing what they have learned from playing hockey and how they can apply it in their lives after hockey.
 

Personal

• Mitchell Paul Vanderlaan is the son of Paul and Shelley Vanderlaan, and he has an older sister and a younger brother.
• Sister, Eden, competed on soccer team at University of New Brunswick.
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
