Biography

Second Team All-Ivy (2017, 2018)

As a senior (2019)

• Played in 18 contests as a senior, starting every match in which she played.
• Season hitting percentage (.370) ranks fourth all-time in program history and was 44th in all of Division I at the conclusion of the season.
• Her hitting percentage (.370) also ranked second on the team and fourth in the Ivy League.
• Hit above .400 in 10 matches on the season, including a season-best .714 against San Francisco where she registered 10 kills.
• Was one of Cornell’s top blocking threats, sitting second on the team in blocks (43.0) and third in blocks per set (0.61).
• Notched at least three blocks eight times, recording 5.0 blocks against Hartford, Canisius, and Buffalo.
• Posted double-digit kills on two occasions, collecting a season-best 13 kills against Buffalo.
• Named the Blue and White Classic Tournament MVP.
• Earned a spot on both the Bay Area Invitational and Blue and White Classic All-Tournament Teams.
• Closes out her Cornell career ranked fourth all-time in school history in career hitting percentage (.311), fifth in block assists (266), 10th in total blocks (296), 14th in blocks per set (0.90), 17th in total points (824.0), and 19th in solo blocks (30).

As a junior (2018)

• Named second-team All-Ivy.
• Led the Big Red in hitting percentage (.311) and ranking second overall in blocks per set (1.00), marks good enough for fourth and sixth, respectively, in the Ivy League.
• Hit better than .400 on nine occasions, including a .688 hitting percentage against Yale on Oct. 6 and a .647 hitting percentage vs. UTSA, marks that were good for second and third overall, respectively, in the Ivy League during the season.
• Finished with two of the top block performances in the conference during the season, placing third overall with nine block assists vs. Harvard on Sept. 28 and ninth overall with eight total blocks (one solo) vs. Brown on Oct. 5.

As a sophomore (2017)

• Named second-team All-Ivy following her sophomore selection.
• Ranked first on the team and seventh in the Ivy League in hitting percentage (.307).
• Led the Ivy League and ranked 10th in the nation in service aces per set (0.47).
• Ranked second in the conference and 77th in the nation in 1.18 blocks per set.
• Finished the year ranked seventh in Cornell history for service aces per set in a single-season (0.47), 12th in attack percentage (.307), 15th in blocks per set (1.18), 19th in blocks assists (81), 19th in service aces (37) and 25th in total blocks (92).
• Nearly broke a school record twice during the season, coming within one ace of the Big Red record with seven at Brown on Oct. 6, and falling one block assist short of the Cornell mark with 14 vs. the Bears on Nov. 11.
• Recorded double-digit kills four times on the season, all of which came during Ivy play.
• Hit better than .400 in eight matches, including in seven conference play.

As a freshman (2016)

• Phelps was the team’s most productive rookie in 2016, playing in all 24 matches.
• Ranked third on the team and 10th in the Ivy League with a .255 hitting percentage.
• Was second on the team with 28 service aces.
• Posted a .300+ hitting percentage nine times, including a season-high .667 outing (9-0-13) vs. Colgate.
• Registered double-digit kills twice, including a season-best 13 vs. Yale on Oct. 1.
• Averaged 1.65 kills and 0.79 blocks per game.
• Finished the season with 37 digs and eight assists.

Prior to Cornell

• Phelps lettered four times at Blue Valley Southwest High School, serving as team captain as a senior.
• Was a four-time All-Eastern Kansas League selection, earning first-team honors as a senior.
• Named second-team all-state as a senior and was named to the Greater Kansas City All Star Team that same season.
• In 2013, she was named a Prep Volleyball Sophomore 79 honorable mention selection, and was a Prep Volleyball Frosh 59 highest honorable mention selection in 2012.
• Was also a Kansas Volleyball Association All-Academic first team honoree as a freshman.
• Played club volleyball with KC Power, helping the squad to a ninth place finish in the open division at the 2014 Girls Junior National Championship, before taking fifth at the 2015 tournament.
• Phelps also lettered twice in bowling.

Personal

• Jenna Marie Phelps is the daughter of Harold and Donna Phelps and her sister Alyssa ’17 was an All-Ivy setter for the Big Red volleyball team.
• Phelps is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
