Biography

At Cornell
Krantz, who served as an alternate captain during his senior season, had a solid final season at Cornell, appearing in all 36 of the team's games, just the second time in his career he appeared in each game. He scored seven points on four goals and three assists, and collected the first two-goal game of his career in the win over Rensselaer on Feb. 16. Krantz earned an assist on the team's first goal of the season in the loss at RIT on Oct. 27. He also scored a goal in his final collegiate game, the first goal of the game in the ECAC Hockey Tournament consolation win over Colgate. Krantz further established himself as one of the top defensemen on the squad and in ECAC Hockey with a solid junior campaign. With the Big Red short on defensemen, he stepped up and appeared in all 31 contests (one of only four players to do so), posting career highs in goals (5), assists (10) and points (15). He posted a pair of multi-point games, collecting a pair of assists in both the season-opener against Robert Morris on Oct. 26 and again in the first road contest of the year on Nov. 3. He scored the game-winning goal in Cornell's second contest, a 5-3 win over RIT at Lynah Rink. Krantz was able to overcome a major injury as a sophomore and played the final six games of the season with a cast on his hand after missing the final two contests of the regular season. Offensively, Krantz contributed seven points on a pair of goals and five assists while also picking up a +10 rating. Krantz had a solid rookie campaign on the East Hill, playing in 31 of the Big Red's 35 contests, including the final 24 contests. He contributed four goals and five assists for nine points from the blue line and got credit for the game winner in a 4-2 win over Clarkson at Lynah Rink on Jan. 28. His first career goal was no less important, as Cornell was trailing Michigan State 1-0 early in the second period when he ripped a shot from the blue line past the Spartans' Dominic Vicari. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Krantz had his first multiple-point game with two assists at Brown on Jan. 7. He also had a big impact for Cornell in the NCAA West regional. In the opening round against Ohio State, the Buckeyes took a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, but Krantz answered with his own marker just 18 seconds later to start the Big Red on the comeback trail. The team would tie it up three minutes later and get the decisive goal in the ninth minute of the third period. Krantz finished +2 for the game and played well against Minnesota the following day to earn a spot on the all-regional team.

Before Cornell
Krantz played golf and volleyball at Selkirk Secondary. He was a three-year captain of the golf team. He was the MVP and top defenseman for Alberni Valley and was named BCHL Coastal Conference Defenseman of the Year.

Personal
Doug James Krantz is the son of Randy and Debra Krantz. He is majoring in hotel administration in the Cornell School of Hotel Administration.
