Fontas was a key contributor for the Big Red as a senior, appearing in 32 of the 36 games and playing a valuable role on the team's checking line. Fontas also was one of the team's top penalty killers, helping Cornell to successfully end 86.1 percent of opponent's power plays. He scored his first point in a Cornell uniform against his former team, tallying an assist against Massachusetts-Lowell on Dec. 28. He then scored his first goal as a Cornellian a week later, tallying the game-winner against Niagara on Jan. 4 at Lynah Rink. Fontas then turned his game up a notch in the playoffs, first helping to shut down Dartmouth's top scoring line, holding a unit that combined for 84 points on the season to just an assist on an empty-net goal in the three-game first round series. The following week, he picked up his first two-goal game of his career, scoring twice to lift the Big Red to a win in game one of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals at Union. Fontas appeared in 11 games for the Big Red during his junior season, making his Cornell debut on Jan. 6 against Sacred Heart, and going on to play in the next five straight contests. Fontas proved himself to be a valuable contributor on the penalty kill, as he twice helped to shut down the Clarkson power play, which was ranked in the top three in the nation in both meetings.

Before Cornell
Fontas sat out the 2005-06 season to fulfill NCAA transfer regulations after spending two years on the ice at UMass-Lowell. During his time with the River Hawks, Fontas saw action in 68 contests, scored three goals and added six assists for nine points. Before attending UML, Fontas played for two seasons at Cushing Academy, serving as captain in his final campaign. He registered 15 goals, 42 assists and 57 points during his prep career.

Christopher J. Fontas is the son of Jon and Diane Fontas and he has two younger brothers. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
