The sidearming Smith made his collegiate debut in an Ivy League game against Princeton on April 27, entering the game with two out in the sixth inning and runners on second and third. Smith delivered, inducing a pop-up by the Tigers’ Matt Bowman — a 13th-round draft pick by the New York Mets after the season — to end the threat.

Prior to Cornell
Smith was named to the ESPN RISE preseason all-state team as a senior at Greenwich HS in Connecticut, also garnering Perfect Game Rawlings All-Northeast Honorable Mention. He was selected to the All-FCIAC West first team as a senior.

Personal
Alexander Walter Smith is the son of Scott and Heidi Smith, and he has a younger sister. His father is a 1978 graduate of Cornell Unviersity. He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
