Matt Ford joined the Big Red as a volunteer assistant coach in advance of the 2017 season. From nearby Lansing, N.Y., Ford enjoyed a very successful career at Hofstra University before playing professionally for two seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays organization and with the Washington (Pa.) Wildthings in an independent league.
At Hofstra, Ford was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year in 2010 and was later named the league's defensive player of the year in 2012 and 2014. He was an American Baseball Coaches Association All-East Region selection and first-team all-league pick in 2012. He earned a bachelor's degree in history at Hofstra in 2014.
Ford is the son of Tom Ford, the current associate head coach.
