Biography

Freshman Season - 2010
Smith made one appearance on the season, coming on as a defensive replacement in the outfield in the marathon game on April 6 against Binghamton. He had one plate appearance in that game, drawing a walk.

Before Cornell

Smith was a two-time second-team all-state honoree, along with being a two-time all-state all-academic team member. He was also a two-time all-district first-team selection while making the second team a third time. Smith played on a team that won three district championships and made a pair of trips to the state tournament, finishing as the runner-up both times.

Personal
James Cooper Smith is the son of Christopher and Carol Smith and has an older brother and a younger brother. His father played baseball at UCLA from 1979 through 1981, while his brother is a senior on the baseball team at Army. Smith was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 1,387th pick of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft (46th round). He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
