Biography
Senior Season - 2010
Rochefort closed out his career as the top closer in Cornell history, finishing with 11 career saves, the most in program history. He had a dominating senior season, posting a 0.67 earned-run average with a 4-1 record in 21 appearances. Rochefort worked 27 innings, allowing just two earned runs, striking out 25 and walking 11 while collecting three saves. He got his first save of the season on March 21, working an inning against Northwestern for the win. His second save came on the next day, again working one inning against the Wildcats to garner the save. Rochefort's third save of the season came on April 14 against Lemoyne in the first game of a doubleheader, and he came back to get the win in game two. He worked 3.1 innings of relief at Penn on April 18, striking out a pair as he got his second win of the year. Rochefort then worked two-thirds of an inning on April 24 against Columbia to pick up a third win in a 1-0 pitchers' duel, and closed out the season with a win on April 30 against Princeton, working 1.2 innings and striking out three. For his efforts, he was named the Ivy League's top relief pitcher, earning a spot on the all-league first-team for the second straight season. Rochefort's career came to an end as the program's all-time leader in saves (11), appearances (58), while his eight saves in 2009 were the most in a season and the 21 appearances in 2010 were second-most in program history.
Junior Season - 2009
Rochefort earned First-Team All-Ivy League honors as the league's top relief pitcher, finishing the year with a 2.52 earned run average in 25 innings of work while striking out 33 batters and recording a Cornell single-season record eight saves. He picked up his first save on Feb. 28 at Navy, working a perfect inning and striking out the side in a 5-4 victory. He picked up his second save on March 31 against Yale, working two innings and striking out four while allowing just one hit. He got the victory in relief in a 3-2 win against Penn on April 12, working two and two-thirds of an inning and allowing one hit while striking out three. Rochefort then picked up saves in his next four appearances, including in three wins against Columbia on April 18-19. In the game one save against the Lions on April 19, he again struck out the side to close out the contest. Rochefort then took the save in game two at Princeton on April 24, and worked a pair of innings two days later for his second win of the season against the Tigers as Cornell forced the Gehrig Division tiebreaker playoff. In the playoff game, he worked one inning, striking out two to help the Big Red tie the single-game strikeout record. He picked up his eighth save of the year in a 14-12 win against Dartmouth on May 2 in game two of the Ivy League Championship Series, fanning two and allowing one hit in two innings.
Sophomore Season - 2008
Rochefort filled a variety of roles for the pitching staff as a sophomore, earning three starts in Ivy League play and appeared in eight games overall, starting five times. He had his best outing in a start against Harvard on April 8, working seven innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out four. He also earned the win in the Big Red’s 16-5 victory over Penn on April 13, working 5.2 innings and scattering 10 hits while striking out four. He fanned four batters three times on the season.
Freshman Season - 2007
Rochefort worked his way into the top four starting rotation as a freshman, appearing in 10 games, starting six of them, with four of those starts coming in Ivy League play. He finished the year with a 5.40 ERA in 28.1 innings of work and was 0-1 on the season. He struck out 12 batters on the year. Rochefort fanned a season-high four batters on March 24 at Army, working five innings of one-run ball. His longest outing was a six-inning performance on April 28 at Princeton, allowing three runs on seven hits in taking a 4-3 loss.
At Loyola
Rochefort was named the 2006 Mission League Pitcher of the Year on his way to earning second-team all-state honors. He helped his team to a pair of league championships, serving as captain during the 2006 season. Rochefort lettered three times in baseball and added a pair of letters in football.
Personal
David Stephen Rochefort is the son of Mark and Betty Rochefort, and he has an older brother. He is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.
