Biography

Senior Season - 2010
Hill concluded his outstanding Cornell career with a team-best five wins on the season, posting a 5-4 record and a 7.23 earned-run average. He made 11 appearances including five starts, and worked 37.1 innings on the year. Hill got the victory with two innings of one-run relief against Northwestern on March 21, then picked up the win in four straight appearances to close out the season. He worked two innings of relief against Columbia, issuing only one walk, then got the start against Binghamton on April 28, working five innings and allowing three earned runs. In the Ivy League finale against Princeton on May 2, he worked 3.2 scoreless innings, scattering four hits and striking out five in an 8-4 victory over the Tigers. He then got the victory in the season finale on May 6, working 1.2 innings and allowing three earned runs. He had a season-best seven strikeouts on April 17 at Penn, getting the start and working seven innings against the Quakers. He finished his career tied for sixth all-time with 44 appearances and tied for 11th with 13 wins.

Junior Season - 2009
Hill led the BIg Red in innings pitched on the season, working 52.2 innings and posting a 2-6 record with a 6.66 earned run average. He opened the year with a seven-inning two-hit shutout performance on Feb. 28 at Navy. He finished the year with 41 strikeouts, posting a season-best seven on March 20 at Sacramento State and again on April 26 against Princeton. He made one relief appearance on April 18 at Columbia, working an inning and two-thirds against the Lions and allowing a pair of runs on three hits while striking out two. Hill's 10 starts led the team.

Sophomore Season - 2008
Hill established himself as the ace of the staff as a sophomore, opening the year with a pair of outstanding relief appearances before getting his first start of the year at La Salle on March 7. He wokred three innings of one-hit relief in his season debut to pick up the save against Siena on Feb. 29 in a 1-0 Cornell victory, then came back two days later for 6.1 innings of relief, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five. In his first start, he struck out four and scattered four hits against the Explorers for his first win of the season. He set a career best with nine striekouts in seven innings of work against NJIT on March 21, and allowed only four earned runs through his first five appearances of the season. Later in the year, he threw a complete game against Penn on April 13, allowing a run on four hits while fanning eight Quaker hitters. He would lead the team in victories (5), innings pitched (55.0) and strikeouts (36).

Freshman Season - 2007
Hill had a solid freshman campaign, posting a 5.13 ERA in 26.1 innings of work. He showed outstanding control, walking just five batters while picking up 16 strikeouts. The southpaw made 11 appearances on the year, getting the start on April 10 against Binghamton and again on April 24 against Penn. In the contest vs. the Bearcats, he worked five innings of one-hit ball as he combined with two other pitchers for a three-hit shutout of Binghamton to pick up his first collegiate win. He struck out a season-best five batters in four innings against the Quakers on April 24.

At Franklin Regional
The 2006 Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Player of the Year, Hill led his team to the Quad A East Championship as a senior. The captain of his team as a senior, he earned a pair of letters in baseball while also lettering twice in basketball. In 2005, he was selected as an American Legion All-Western Pennsylvania All-Star.

Personal
Matthew Roddy Hill is the son of Tom and Janice Hill, and he has a sister. He is enrolled in Cornell’s College of Engineering.
