Biography

Senior Season — 2015
Busto finished up his collegiate career with a 10-9 record and a 4.69 ERA after going 1-4 on the mound during his senior year. He made 11 appearances on the season, including six starts He picked up his tenth career victory on February 27 against Hartford when he threw four innings in relief, while allowing just one run. His second to last appearance also marked his first career save, when he tossed three scoreless frames on April 24 to help the Big Red past Princeton.

Junior Season — 2014
Busto returned to primarily start, tying for the team lead in victories with three. He finished the season 3-2 with a 5.98 earned-run average, including six starts among his 10 appearances. His 31 strikeouts ranked third on the team. Busto's best start was also his last, spurring the Big Red to a 3-2 victory over Princeton in the second game of an April 25 doubleheader at Hoy Field. Busto tied season-highs with seven innings worked and six strikeouts while issuing no walks and surrendering two runs (one earned).

Sophomore Season — 2013
Busto emerged as a front-line starter, leading the team in victories with a 5-2 record to go with a 3.34 earned run average. He was one of just two pitchers to start nine games (classmate Brian McAfee was the other), and he led the team in innings (56.2), strikeouts (34) and complete games (two). Both of those complete games came in Ivy League interdivisional play, when he surrendered one run in seven innings of work against both Brown and Harvard to push his record to 4-0. He also fanned a career-high seven against the Crimson. Busto was particularly strong in nonleague games, where he was 2-0 with a 1.44 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .198 average.

Freshman Season — 2012
Busto served admirably as a weekday starter and weekend long reliever in his collegiate debut with the lowest ERA among the team’s three lefties. His longest outing was his first career start, when he yielded two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings on March 21 at Virginia Tech. His other two starts — April 4 at Canisius and April 11 vs. Binghamton — were also no-decisions before his services were shifted back to the bullpen for the stretch drive. Busto earned his first victory after stranding two inherited runners and fanning five in three innings of work against Columbia on April 15. He was saddled with a hard-luck loss via unearned run on April 21 at Penn, then tossed 2.1 innings against Dartmouth in Game 1 of the Ivy League Championship Series. He also pitched 1.1 innings as the first man out of the bullpen in the Big Red's NCAA Chapel Hill Regional opener against North Carolina.

Prior to Cornell
Busto was the captain in his senior season for Lakeside H.S. in Seattle, Wash., earning all-Metro League honors in both his junior and senior campaigns as both a pitcher and designated hitter.

Personal
Nicholas Richard Busto is the son of Mark Busto and Maureen Lee, and he has an older brother and two older sisters. His father played catcher for the baseball team at Occidental College in California. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
