Biography

Senior Season — 2017
Wagner earned All-Ivy League honorable mention after being one of just three players to start all 38 games for the Big Red. While serving as the everyday third baseman and primarily hitting in the 3-hole, Wagner batted .296 with two doubles, two triples, one home run and 22 RBI. His home run was memorable — a grand slam as part of a 3-for-6, five-RBI performance in an April 5 victory at Towson. Wagner's 13 games with multiple hits was tied for second-most on the squad, and he had a team-best 13-game hitting streak from April 5-23. With just 13 strikeouts in 152, Wagner was statistically the 58th-toughest player to strike out in the nation.

Junior Season — 2016
Wagner led the team with a .341 batting average, though he saw just four at-bats after suffering an injury in a non-league game before Ivy League divisional series started. His on-base percentage of .429 led the team by a wide margin, aided by a terrific ratio of 10 walks against just seven strikeouts in 85 at-bats. He was also a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts from primarily the second or third spot in the order while manning third base. Despite all of his missed time, Wagner was tied for the team lead in game with multiple hits (10 — including three games with three hits) and had the team's longest hitting streak of the season (eight games). He reached base safely in 16 consecutive games and 20 of 23 games overall.

Sophomore Season — 2015
After starting the season in mid-March, Wagner became a mainstay at second base for the Big Red, making 28 consecutive starts at the position, while leading the club with a .308 batting average. Hitting primarily in the middle of the lineup, he finished with a .365 on-base percentage and knocked in 15 runs. He played his best against Ancient Eight opponents, hitting .348 in Ivy League play and making just one error in 20 conference games. He also led the club with three sacrifice flies and had a seven-game hitting streak in mid-April.

Freshman Season — 2014
Wagner made appearances at second base and at third base, making 11 starts and eight appearances off the bench. He had a .171 batting average with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two stolen bases while batting from the bottom third of the order. He hit a two-run singles in the 10th inning of the Big Red's 14-8 victory March 16 at James Madison, then later drove in two of the Big Red's nine runs April 12 at Penn to hand the Quakers their first Ivy League loss of the season.

Prior to Cornell
One of the most successful hitters to come out of a strong Rochester-area high school, Wagner holds Victor all-time single-season records for batting average (.567) and doubles (13), as well as career marks in hits (195), doubles (53), RBIs, (137) and runs (137). His career average over five years was .455, and he surged to a .538 average and 7-0 record with a 0.67 earned-run average from the mound as a senior. Wagner finished his high school career as a four-time all-state selection and the Section V all-time career hits leader (195), which ranks third in the state and first in the big school category. Among his many other accolades, he was a two-time Monroe County Player of the Year, the 2013 Section V Class AA Player of the Year and tournament MVP, and the 2013 All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year.
