Biography

Senior Season — 2016-17
Weidner was named ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward and earned the Nicky Bawlf Award, which is given annually to the most valuable player of the Big Red as voted on by his teammates. Serving as the team's captain, Weidner finished third on the team in scoring with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points. For the entire second half of the season, Weidner was by a wide margin the national leader in blocked shots per game for forwards (2.00). He was also the Big Red’s faceoff ace, where he led the team with a 57.6 winning percentage. He scored some of Cornell's most memorable goals of the season, including a power-play goal late in the third period Feb. 3 at Union to give the Big Red a slump-busting victory and touch off a nine-game unbeaten streak through the end of the regular season. After the season, Weidner signed a professional contract with the Iserlohn Rooster of the DEL, which is widely regarded as one of Europe's top leagues.

Junior Season — 2015-16
Weidner set a career high with 15 points on five goals and 10 assists. He led the team with a 56.0 percent success rate on faceoffs, and his 34 blocked shots led the team's forward corps. Weidner's first goal came on the power play Nov. 7 vs. Quinnipiac, and his other power-play goal on the year accounted for the team's only strike Jan. 30 at St. Lawrence. Weidner set up classmate Matt Buckles for a pair of power-play goals Jan. 16 at Union, then he scored two goals and added an assist for three points in three games of an ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series at Quinnipiac.

Sophomore Season — 2014-15
Weidner doubled his point total from the previous season, tallying three goals to go along with 11 assists. Two of his goals came in consecutive games, as he scored a power-play goal to seal a 2-0 road win against Clarkson in mid-January, then he deposited another power-play marker the following weekend in the Big Red’s 5-1 win at Union. He had a pair of multi-point games in convincing victories against national power Denver and Brown. Weidner also displayed his two-way game by sharing the lead for shot-blocking by a forward with 23 blocks during the season.

Freshman Season — 2013-14
Weidner scored one goal to go with six assists for seven points over 23 games in his rookie season. He played intermittently during the first half of the season, but appeared in all of the Big Red's final 12 games. His first four collegiate points — all assists — came in the team's first three games. He assisted on two goals in his debut Oct. 25 at Neb.-Omaha, then had the primary helper on Dustin Mowrey's power-play goal in the rematch the following night. Weidner's first collegiate goal was memorable, coming on a breakaway against eventual national champion Union on Feb. 14 at Lynah Rink. He froze Dutchmen goalie Colin Stevens with a stick fake, then tucked a forehand inside the near post.

Prior to Cornell
Weidner joined the Big Red after leading the Elmira Sugar Kings in scoring and finishing sixth in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League scoring race with 28 goals and 55 assists for 83 points in just 49 regular-season games. He then added four goals and four assists for eight points in six playoff games. Weidner was named a GOJHL First Team All-Star in 2013 and was also presented the league’s Sportsmanship & Ability Award. In 2011, he was tabbed as the circuit’s Best Defensive Forward. In 2011-12, Weidner posted 41 points in 49 games with the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Newmarket Hurricanes.
