Sweeney moved to tight end/H-Back full time in the spring of 2012 and is one of the frontrunners at the position due to his athleticism and understanding of the offense.

He scored his first career touchdown with a 4-yard run as a sophomore in a win over UC Davis. He was named to the honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic team. He redshirted during his rookie season in 2008, earning the school's co-Scout Team Player of the Year on offense.
